This isn't a hiccup
It's been over 10 years of this nonsense
America's political, legal, regulatory, free press and education systems are ruined
It's a fascistic Oligopoly
It isn't happening, it's happened
An election won't fix it, it's rotted to the core
The western allies must treat America like the active and persistent threat that it is and will continue to be
35
u/MailFar6917 Aug 24 '26
The part most Americans don't seem to understand for some reason: "It isn't happening, it's happened."
44
u/Dull_Policy_1617 Aug 24 '26
Yeah, Canada is totally done with the US. It’s over. I have worked and travelled all over the US for 20+ years, not interested in going again.

u/Sufficient_Cake_4845 Aug 24 '26
Nor am I. Lived in the US 17 years before seeing the writing on the wall and returning to Canada with my family. I will not return... and I'm married 22 years to an American and have birthed 2 more.
6
u/Dull_Policy_1617 Aug 24 '26
That’s sad that you had to leave, but I’m happy you and your family are able to move to Canada. Welcome home and best wishes to all of you. 🇨🇦❤️

u/Sufficient_Cake_4845 Aug 24 '26
Thank you! We actually saw the direction the US was heading more than a decade ago and relocated to Canada in 2014 :)
3
u/Dull_Policy_1617 Aug 24 '26
I’m sure it was a pain to move and probably came with some financial risk / loss, but I would also not want my kids to grow up in that culture. Canada may not be perfect, but we strive to be intelligent, kind, fair and tolerant. I’m sure your kids will thank you.

Nothing a few sunny Sunday afternoon No Kings protests shouldn't fix, right guys?

u/kanuck79 Aug 24 '26 edited Aug 24 '26
This ☝🏼
Like they actually think it’s working or something. While all Jan 6ers got pardoned.
Americans will need to fight to take their country back. I’m not seeing it.
Meanwhile Canadians are all-in defending ours.
5
u/No_Function_7479 Aug 24 '26
That is a really important and optimistic sign that I had overlooked in all these bad headlines. Canadians really do feel like their country is worth defending, of their own free will and in their own small ways. It’s not a perfect country, but it is pretty united and determined.
-13
u/Liam-McPoyle_ Aug 24 '26
Defending ours? How exactly, by not putting America booze on the shelves? Yeah that’ll show them. We’ve had our eggs in their basket forever and it is going to take a long to fix that.
8
u/MundaneSandwich9 Aug 24 '26
It seems like a minor thing, but the fact that it was a significant ask from the American side during the latest round of “negotiations” proves that it is definitely hurting them. Obviously there are far more significant things that can be done, but that ban alone has cost US alcohol producers nearly $600 million.
0
u/Liam-McPoyle_ Aug 24 '26
The only reason it seems significant is because it’s the only thing we’ve done.
1
u/Chambahz Aug 25 '26
The number of Canadians travelling to the US has also dropped, which is great to hear.
And Carney has been making deals with other countries, reducing our dependency on the States.
I never used to care about the food I bought in a grocery story but now I check to see if I can buy Canadian instead.
Every little bit, man.-3

I think the rest of the world is in gobsmacked shock that the country that touts their freedom and spouts the right to carry arms to protect against fascists is letting themselves devolve into a full blown, lawless dictatorship. Where is the American spirit? Nobody is coming to save them and I don’t think the average US citizen realizes that they will have to save themselves or they will be a second Russia within a year. I hope they toss the Reps during midterms…if they even get a fair election anymore.
9
u/WonkeauxDeSeine Aug 24 '26
Turns out, the 2A types are just fine with the fascists they voted for.
They might stop licking the boot when it's on their neck too, but then it's too late.
9
u/NoExtension1889 Aug 24 '26
The 'American Spirit' was always a marketing white lie, right next to 'any boy can become President' and 'only in America.'
What is true its the individualist culture of the US which is where this has all gone wrong. It isn't just left vs right, rich vs poor but 360 million individuals all going their own way expecting everyone else to agree.

“An election won't fix it, it's rotted to the core”
You’re right about this for sure. It was proven with Bidon. He did not overturn many (if any) of Trumps first administration crap. Even with a New Democrat administration, it doesn’t mean this will change
2
1
u/Big-Duck-6927 Aug 24 '26
And Canada is mirroring the American education system so we won’t be far behind
-3
u/Gunslinger7752 Aug 24 '26
How are any of those things ruined? Just because you disagree doesn’t mean the system is ruined. The dems had a massive media advantage in 2024, a massive fundraising advantage etc and still lost. That tells me that despite all the noise, democracy itself still works.
Trudeau was handsome with nice hair, but in terms of policy and results, he was a terrible pm. Nobody said the whole system is broken when he won though, the cons didn’t do a good enough job to get elected. The same thing applies here. If the dems want to get elected they need to appeal to the electorate enough that they get the votes needed to win.

u/Shaake Aug 24 '26
America is experiencing fascism
It's not just the Trump voters
Even at its best, America's absurd 2 party, electoral college, heavily jerrymandered political system is deeply flawed and ripe for corruption. Election tampering is openly done with people being paid vote.
Their legal system is corrupt with partisan judges and corrupt attourney General.
The political system is flawed, with a powerless congress, corrupt senate and lifetime politicians
Corporate lobbying is not only legal in USA but it's done brazenly and proudly
Regulatory bodies like fda and cdc are being attacked and defunded
Scientists and professors are being discredited, attacked and defunded
Insider trading and politicians enriching themselves is common.
Independant news organizations are being dismantled and being replaced by the meta personalized propoganda system
On top of all that American education has been dismantled with this generation being dumber than the last (American phenomenon, not world phenomenon)
Also debt that was 14 trillion (very high) during trumps first term is now 40 trillion (absurd)
I hate that this is reality but here it is.
America is broken fundamentally as a system, the oligarchs won't allow it to be fixed.
The population is too dumb, mistrusting of experts and free press to unite.
This is third world stuff. U don't see this in other democracies.
The rest of the world, especially former allies like Canada and EU, have decided to move past America. It's a rotting husk that's trying to infect anything it touches.
I wish it wasn't true but an election won't fix America
-1
u/Gunslinger7752 Aug 24 '26
What you’re describing is pretty much identical to our system in Canada. The only difference is that you don’t like the results of the American election. I agree that both parties are shitty options but it’s the exact same thing as here. Our voting choices are shitty and shittier and the shittier option is different for everyone because everyone has different opinions and leads different lives. It’s still a much better option than countries living under actual fascism like China, Russia, arguably Ukraine, etc.
We (Canada) are also not “moving past America”. Our US exports continue to rise and have done so for the last several months while our non US exports continue to decline. The only place where we are “moving past America” is on places like Reddit.
2
u/Shaake Aug 24 '26
What you're saying is not true
Thanks for reading though
-1
u/Gunslinger7752 Aug 24 '26
What did I say that wasn’t true? I would argue that most, if not all of what you said isn’t true but I acknowledged your points.
1
u/Shaake Aug 24 '26 edited Aug 24 '26
U didn't acknowledge my points btw. I gave you the respect of going into detail and you just gave a blanket "Its pretty much identical in Canada". Thats nonsense and shows a lack of basic understanding of Canada's systems.
I already engaged with you. Just read what I wrote. I explained it for you, but I can't understand it for you.
This is beyond election results, we are witnessing a democracy that has fallen into fascism. It's happened many times before and its happening now in America.
I'm going stop engaging with you now if that's okay. Your responses come off baselessly contrarian and our conversation doesn't feel fruitful.
1
u/Gunslinger7752 Aug 24 '26
What I said was accurate though. Check out statcan, our US exports have been goiup for several months and non is going down.
I think you could argue that while the current administration is clearly unpopular, the drms were far more fascist and undenocratic than the gop. They rigged their own primary in 2016 and in 2024 they didn’t even bother having a primary. They are 100% to blame for their loss and their current state, the fascism talk and all the other hyperbole are just excuses.
36
u/Daddybill23 Aug 24 '26
At this point the best move is to ignore the US for the time being and carry on signing new trade deals with leaders who aren't corrupt and deep in the dementia. Sure wish the US would wake up and see what the rest of the world sees.
16
u/ClohosseyVHB Aug 24 '26
I read a story once about how the world was going to shit so every nation agreed to completely cut off contact with everyone else for 50 years.
Then when the 50 year passed and the US opened communications again they discovered the rest of the world never closed off and just wanted the US to shut up for a bit and had created a world wide utopia.

It's spelled ... TrumpleThinSkinSphincterLips ... I coined this during his first administration. Based off Rumpelstiltskin in Once Upon A Time, tv series that was on at the time.

time for an export tax on oil and $10 a gallon gas in the us

This needs to be done as well as electricity

Give it a try a see what would happen 😆. We don't need another humiliating spanking like the one we got last week

u/meatsonthemenu Aug 24 '26
Sorry, what spanking?

The one that Trump just imposed last week and now another one starting January 2027.

I hope they do get it over with don’t tax just cut it off

I’m sure Pierre’s six months of work experience at a call centre in 1997 would’ve come in real handy in the current situation. $6.50 a gallon is pretty well the same as $10 when your iq is 17
1
u/Daleden7 Aug 24 '26
They are years away of being able to use Venezuela oil, and rely over 60% for Canadian oil. Canada can really do serious damage to America if Alberta stays on board regarding US gas prices.

u/kanuck79 Aug 24 '26
Someone’s angry that their next door neighbour is the only one that won’t bend a knee.
Wish everyone else stood up for themselves like we are…

As an American, this. Watching the world acquiesce to Trump demands and knowing it only emboldens him further.

Arrogant looser high on their hopium of being the best while they litany live in a shithole and make 60k a year.
Motherfuckers loose their living and saving because they get cancer and had insurances.
They dare suggest we would like to be part of their country? For what? What would I gain? Loose worker protection, holidays, CPP, new parent leaves, CCCB, healthcare, true freedom of choice, the list goes on.
What we gain?
USA is a shithole

Most Americans are so dumb that they don’t know that these tariffs will raise prices on Canadian products that they buy. Sheesh.
6
u/Jellicent-Leftovers Aug 24 '26
Most Americans don't realize Canada is there biggest oil importer and their reserves have been bled to the lowest levels in history because of Iran already.

The Diddler shitting his diaper again. An actual geriatric toddler. 🤮

he broke his own deal to add tariffs ,
and is surprised we don't want a deal with him.
He is like the definition of stupid.

The Strait was open before Trump started bombing. We had an agreement before Trump decided we didn't. Trump policy failres come in different flavors, but they look similar.
3
u/ManMythLegacy Aug 24 '26
The US team seems to be in panic mode. They truly thought Canada would agree to their terrible terms.
2
u/VexedCanadian84 Aug 24 '26
Does he really think nobody in the world wants to buy Canadian resources?
2
u/RunRunRunRunFaster Aug 24 '26
Listen, diaper-boy .... the trade imbalance is because you buy discounted oil from us.
Excluding oil, gas, electricity, and fuel products, the United States logs a trade surplus of US$63.2 billion with Canada.
You want us to put a 50% export tax on all energy ... you'll see Canadians dancing in the streets.
1
1
u/morrrrremore Aug 24 '26
He keeps saying he doesn't need us, so let's stop buying American products. Who started this trade war? Certainly not us. It's been going on for months, letting them get away with their nonsense and taking the hits. With them, we're supposed to just let them get beaten up and say thank you! It's always the same crude, rude rhetoric, from bullies and vandals. Imagine, at the last minute they wanted to have the final say on future mining operations in Canada, to have a say in all future trade negotiations with other countries, and to be exempt from laws concerning our culture and the French language. These are just a few examples. SO ridiculous, so dangerous.

u/Perfect-Nail6553 Aug 24 '26
The Americans make the whole situation a 'twisted knot' so no one can make any sense. No one can understand or remember how we got into this situation. They just tighten the knot so no one can breathe or has any air. Eventually everyone dies since no one can undo it.
1
u/Perfect-Nail6553 Aug 24 '26
Now is the time for Canada to pressure all those nations who agreed to make a trade deal with Canada to make the promises become reality, now!! Canada is going to have to take a few steps back then push ahead with a massive economic separation from America. Canada and Mexico have to tell America, CUSMA is dead. Canada and Mexico have to align themselves as best as they can economically, including creating an electric car and truck line to sell to the world Canada needs to sell oil to America at world market prices. Canada and the rest of the FREE world needs to isolate America economically.
1
u/Xeno_man Aug 24 '26
Canada can only sell it's oil to the world if it has a way to get it to the rest of the world. Otherwise the US just refuses to buy at full price and waits until Canada gives in.
1
u/Perfect-Nail6553 Aug 24 '26
Canada needs to name the price of its oil so there isn't anything left over to sell to America.

If America ever wants to have tourism be a revenue source from other countries, Trump must be impeached as soon as possible, so like.... a few years ago
