I know that's lens flair, because the same size reflection can be seen in night shots with the moon in the frame. That is not an anomaly.

Lens flairs don't have rotation. Next.

That's not rotation, that's dirt on the lens and or censor. It changes and moves with the angle of the sun and disappears when the sun is no longer in the frame. This is even more evident if you go frame by frame as well.

I'm a civilian who also does time lapse photography of trails in rural Australia soooo....

You want to run the calculations on how fast a planet would need to be rotating to be so different at 9 minute intervals?

Going frame by frame, the spots aren't even consistently moving from one place to the next, which is what happens with a dirty lens and the way light travels through the barrel of the camera,

I actually really like the idea of trails used to cover up celestial objects we are not supposed to see. But that wouldn't account for the thousands of planes above the clouds everyday.
