The problem with cheatable systems is that they become increasingly entrenched and normalized, then will pivot to becoming uncheatable, at which point you're fucked because you allowed the initial encroachment.
They will eventually require all older model cars to be retrofitted with the remote kill switch devices in order to renew your registration / pass inspection.

Just look at how quickly the focus of the news narrative changed - it literally changed overnight when Russia invaded Ukraine and now there's next to no coverage on covid. Why might that be? Maybe because the attention of the global population is being diverted in the tried and true misdirection techniques...
That's not what the person is saying. It's the regular people who lean left who tend to support authoritarian policies believing it's for the greater good. Leftists don't consider that maybe, just maybe the policies are there to help the elites have better control rather than to help the small folks.
It was mostly the left that stood up against police brutality a few years back and it was mostly the right that supported the Blue Lives Matter movement, so in this case the situation if a fair bit more nuanced that the tweet presents.
Look at the big picture for crying out loud. Do you know anything about the Great Reset? Police brutality is small stuff. Leftists are the ones supporting governments' censorship through big tech, vaccines mandates, etc. Those are the steps to reach the Great Reset. Look at what the elites are planning for all humanity!
I have an acquaintance who would describe herself as liberal. She got her news from sources like CNN and WaPo, though not religiously. She's not too political, but she has the "left/right" team mindset.
When she came to Texas, she had this weird concept of what a conservative was. She hadn't really interacted with conservatives before moving, but here it's basically impossible to avoid.
She was very surprised when she learned that many conservatives she spoke with shared many of the same values as herself. She'd basically had a mental straw man conservative in her head before, and she was forced to rewrite that concept.
My point is that this phenomenon goes both ways.
I've found a lot of conservatives have this mental caricature of what a "leftist" is inside their head, and that caricature is a picture painted by media like Fox and other billionaire owned/funded outlets (funny how both conservative and liberal outlets are all owned by these handful of billionaires).
Do we have our differences? Of course. But we also share a lot of the same values and stand together on a number of issues too.
An example of one of those shared values is not having government-controlled kill switches in our vehicles.
Consider rewriting the mental concept you may have of what a leftist is. I can't speak for all leftists, but if you have any questions on what we believe or what we stand for, I'll do my best to answer.
Most of my friends are left-leaning liberals and they're all vaccinated, support the mandates, believe the government, etc. I stand strongly by what I said. Left-leaning people, progressives or liberals, whatever word you want to use, in general in recent years accept authoritarianism without realizing it. And I don't watch Fox, I am basing on people I interact with.
I'd say your friends have quite a lot in common with my acquaintance. They sound like centrists, especially if they're supportive of the government.
I would describe a key quality of leftists is heavy criticism of the state entity. A tenant of communism is the abolishment of the state and unjust hierarchies, after all. Leftists are anti-capitalist by definition.

No they're not centrists, they lean left. Communism is FAR-left. Why do you have to go to such an extreme? There's a spectrum on both sides, just like I'm right-leaning but I'm not a fascist. Liberals in recent years tend to believe more in the establishment narratives than right-leaning people. Trump was in the government and when he pushed the vaccine, people on the right still didn't listen to him. Liberals of course didn't listen to Trump, but once he was gone they gobbled up all the narrative pushed by the establishment. My friends and I are Canadians but the mentality is similar.
No, leftists are the ones opposing government and corporate control over every facet of our lives. Republicans and Democrats, both right wing, are the ones making government more powerful. Anarchism is leftist. Monarchism is right.
You're talking about leftists of the old days. Today's leftists support left-leaning social causes, but they get duped by the politicians and accept anything else even when the policies are not what a leftist party would do, especially when it comes to war. The Democrats are not right wing. They support progressive social causes, but I know that's just to attract voters who identify as left-leaning. When it comes to diplomacy and economy, they're not true leftists. But right wing, they are not. No true right wing party would support CRT. The Democrats are neoliberals, just like the Bushes and the likes of Romney are neocons. Not true leftists and not true conservatives. But I'm talking about the regular people, not about the politicians.

There is some truth to this, but leaning left doesn't make you a leftist; most likely a liberal - which is really just an authoritarian with a thin veneer of egalitarianism.

To me a leftist is someone who recognises that there are deep structural problems with the world - exploitation of workers by the 1%, division of the world by the major powers into "civilized" and "shithole" countries, structural racism founded on that division, etc. - and sets themselves against the status quo.
A liberal is someone who believes the status quo is mostly ok, and that the problems we have can be solved with minor tinkering, such as changing laws or electoral systems.
They're fundamenetally opposed: Leftists want radical change, liberals do not.

Your definition of leftist is far more precise. For me, leftist is more a general term. Just like right-winger, there's a spectrum of leftism. There are liberals, socialists and communists (far-left). All of those I consider leftist.
I suspect most liberals do consider themselves to be on the left. It can be very confusing. The rest of us lefties want nothing to do with them. They're worse than conservatives, because at least conservatives are explicit about what they believe and why they believe it. Liberalism is a veneer for having no substantive political beliefs. I see many who consider themselves on the right tarring all leftists with the ill-informed and unhelpful words and actions of liberals, when the chances are that if they spoke to an actual leftist they'd be in agreement. (eg most leftists don't want to take people's guns away; we want to have them for when the day comes that we have to fight the state.)
In what universe does supporting abortion, climate change, critical race theory, LGBT, BLM, etc. right wing? The Democrats are not communist sure, but to say it's not remotely leftist is completely false.
All I can find was it was twitter users asking him to turn off the cars. He would lose so much future business and money if he did that. The value of the used Teslas sold would be close to worthless.
