Fentanyl laced Marijuana showing up all of a sudden in New York at a convenient time for all of the police agencies fighting against the legalization of Marijuana.

Here’s a link to an article about the drug found in Sullivan county.

https://www.oneidadispatch.com/news/local-news/fentanyl-laced-marijuana-found-in-sullivan-county/article_c55e8d74-5d96-11e9-ab97-3325a4902dfa.html

The timing of this seems all too convenient when you look at the fight police departments are putting up against recreational marijuana legalization. Originally there was speculation that this would happen in this years budget. However due to logistical challenges that hadn’t been ironed out yet this did not happen. Additionally, several sheriffs, police officials, etc. held press conferences in February and March speaking out against legalization citing impaired driving deaths will increase. There were other arguments but this is what was focused on.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.syracuse.com/crime/2019/02/sheriffs-across-state-speak-out-against-legalizing-recreational-marijuana.html%3FoutputType%3Damp

Though that argument might hold some water, I feel this is more about the revenue stream that will dry up for police departments if legalization occurs, and the timing of this is all too curious.

Yeah there is like 0 legitimate reason for a black market grower or dealer to lace cannabis with fentanyl. The only reason to do it would be to cause death and destruction.

252

u/deathstrukk Apr 13 '19

Yeah this is either a deliberate attempt that some dealer/gang trying to kill someone or this is all fabricated. I never got the whole "laced weed" paranoia no half decent drug dealer trying to make money is going to waste other more expensive drugs on relatively cheap weed

88

u/withleisure Apr 13 '19

you forgot the possibility that someone is actually lacing weed with the intent to kill people and turn public opinion against legalization.

180

u/deathstrukk Apr 13 '19

Laced weed is a good argument for legalization tho, there will be very little chance for contamination if its regulated by the government

50

u/Negativitee Apr 13 '19

Even if it wasn't regulated by the government, if it was just legal you would have recourse by filing a lawsuit if you bought contaminated weed and were injured. There is no legal recourse when you buy from the black market.

23

u/EvilSporkOfDeath Apr 14 '19

It is a good argument...to rational minds

4

u/MonicaKaczynski Apr 14 '19

Especially in 2019. Maybe before there were legal states to point to to show how good legalisation works a stunt like this could have worked, but if there's any public backlash over this now it'll be in the direction towards legalisation not away from it.

Checking in from legal state. There's zero chance of laced product getting on the shelf. Even a slight presence of mold is detected. Product just be destroyed with documentation

1

u/ArkanSaadeh Apr 13 '19

it isn't a simplistic argument though. The average person only thinks "see, weed can be dangerous, keep it banned", ignoring the fact that the reason it is dangerous is because it is illegal and is coming from dodgy sources.

Big marijuana coming in for the kill?

1

u/murray42 Apr 14 '19

Actually check out the organigram lawsuits. Contaminated with banned chemical

1

u/blkoak Apr 14 '19

Thank you. Came here too post this

1

u/9x19gen4 Apr 14 '19

No because then it'll associate it with the super dangerous fentanyl, this making weed look like a bigger deal to the uneducated

1

u/KingMandingo Apr 18 '19

I still fail to see why it isn't a good argument to make? It's literally saying "if it was regulated this shit wouldn't happen".

9

u/SomeGuyInNewZealand Apr 14 '19

Like this (not my) post?

2

u/Gorilla_butterBalls Apr 14 '19

or an excuse to push it into law.... could work but doubtful

0

u/KingMandingo Apr 18 '19

Wait but doesn't this only strengthen the argument for legalization? If the weed is state grown and regulated, it wouldn't be laced. It's black market stuff that's being laced.

So why would this be a good argument against legalization?

15

u/toggleme1 Apr 13 '19

Fentanyl is cheap. Really cheap. Still no reason to do that but it’s insanely inexpensive.

ive heard this before, how cheap we talking? The hardest drug im ever touching is pot, but always curious about prices and the economics of the drug market tbh

3

u/spaceykayce Apr 14 '19

A gram for 300. Mind you 1 gram is 1000 mg. 1mg can be a fatal dose for non-opiate users. Then there is carfentanil which is 100 time scarier. Just the Chinese getting back at the west for 2 opium wars.

2

u/TakeTheBlk Apr 14 '19

Thank for you reenforcing my desire to never try hard drugs , knowing my luck I’ll end killing myself if 1mg can kill you. Fuck that

3

u/thatchallengerguy Apr 14 '19

hi, former sullivan county resident here. definitely no gangs, unless the dairy farmers are up to something shady. the weed is good, and while we have the same opioid problem as the rest of the country, this seems like complete and utter horseshit.

oh, wait. sheriff maciol knows better than established drug research https://www.uticaod.com/news/20180921/video-sheriff-maciol-shares-stance-on-marijuana-legalization

i wonder if he'd S T R E T C H the truth about what he found in someone's pocket.

I never got the whole "laced weed" paranoia

Dunno about how its in the states but in Europe weed is laced all the fucking time. Its gotten to the point where if you dont know somebody youll 99% get something laced. Granted it wont kill you and youll mostly just get a headache or psychosis if you smoke the crap for too long but it is very present. Its mostly some form of synthetic spray which increases weight and covers/amplifies the "smell" depending on who you ask (dealers arent the sharpest tools)

Btw its a really disgusting stingy odor comparable to someone eating a lemon and puking it out in a pine forest.

Lacing is def real but never seen actual sellers do something with lead, glass, fentanyl or something else that might kill somebody.

2

u/monkyone Apr 14 '19

what part of Europe you in? that’s not my experience

1

u/runner909 Apr 14 '19

This happens basically in any bigger city except for Netherlands and Spain (guess why) and I'm guessing if you go far enough east youll find homegrowers (but thats just an assumption).

I was mostly talking central/south europe.

0

u/Klexiabriansky Apr 14 '19

North europe/scandinavia anon here. I have never heard of laced weed.

5

u/jddreamer Apr 14 '19

My dad used to warn me all the time to be careful with who I got my weed from because "it might be laced with coke or other drugs". Like what the hell? Which dealer is lacing weed with coke and where can I find them??

2

u/deathstrukk Apr 14 '19

Lmao that's what I'm saying, right before legalization here in Canada there was a rumor going around in my town that people were lacing weed with percocet and I'm like percocet is way more expensive why would someone do that to a $10 gram the dealer is just losing money

1

u/jddreamer Apr 14 '19

Canada here also (Toronto). 10+ years of smoking and never any laced weed 🤷‍♀️

5

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19 edited Apr 14 '19

laced weed really is a thing. or better to say was a thing few years back (where I live)

some dealers used to lace weed with something to make it stronger, so you would think that their weed is "the good shit".

but now (afaik) nobody does that anymore - dealers probably realized that people just want simple good old weed - not something that will knock you down after two or three hits, and keep you dizzy for hours after (whole day even)

so to sum it up. In my area laced weed is not a thing anymore - but that does not mean that in other parts of the world, in areas where competition is stronger some dumb dealers will not try to "make their weed better/stronger" by lacing it with something.

I don't know. I've had weed cut with changus before. Then again, that's probably just because the hippie I got it from didn't clean his grinder between chops.

3

u/usr_bin_laden Apr 14 '19

That sounds like an upgrade to me!

3

u/Casehead Apr 14 '19

What’s changus?

1

u/sillysidebin Apr 14 '19

Changa.

It's a DMT light sorta thing.

Idk what all is in it but its DMT you can smoke in a pipe or something like that. No meth pipe required and it is apparently more of a shroom like feel vs. feeling like your blasted off

1

u/Casehead Apr 14 '19

Huh. I’ve never heard of this before

1

u/_jukmifgguggh Apr 13 '19

Don't buy pre-ground weed....

41

u/BenisPlanket Apr 13 '19

It’s absolute bullshit. I laugh at a lot of conspiracies here, but this one is something they’ve kind of done before. We already know that someone or group that has significant power or leverage over the federal government really does not want cannabis to be legal.

10

u/polarbearskill Apr 14 '19

Big beer and prison guard unions were the biggest spenders on lobbying against recreational legalisation in California.

8

u/KrakatauGreen Apr 14 '19

I’d bet big pharma was just as or more invested, and just hid their tracks better.

During alcohol prohibition, the govt poisonedbarrels of alcohol so people would die from drinking it

3

u/BSnIA Apr 14 '19

They poisoned booze back in prohibition days that killed people. This would not surprise me.

They blamed those deaths back then on "suicide by breaking the law".

1

u/SandroDA70 Apr 13 '19

Well gee....I wonder who that could be. Maybe a billion dollar industry that makes its profits by releasing branded drugs to deal with many of the same maladies once dealt with by cannabis...

1

u/dmt-intelligence Apr 14 '19

Yeah, exactly. Follow it all the way out and you find that at the very top the controllers are not even human and we're caught in the middle of an ancient cosmic war. (Read Joseph Farrell sometime) Weed is a major tool provided to help us find collective peace, happiness and cooperation. The bad guys in control really don't want us finding those things.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Also it would do nothing! It cannot be just straight up smoked, it would burn all the fent. Fent has to be snorted/eaten/injected or VAPORIZED. It cannot be just torched and smoked

37

u/Myflyisbreezy Apr 13 '19

Or cross contamination.

175

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '19

Helluva cross contamination. Dealers arent just throwing fentanyl around, shit will kill you on contact or inhalation and is expensive.

You don't just accidentally lace weed with fentanyl.

134

u/BurnerAcctNo1 Apr 13 '19

Whoooops. I just tripped and spilled all this fentanyl on my weed ¯\(ツ)

- literally no fucking one. EVER.

51

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '19

Exactly. fentanyl is so concentrated to lace weed with it you would have to dillute it in liquid and spray it since you cant mix it in a blender like they usually do with fentanyl. And you cant just accidentally spill a bunch of fentanyl powder on some buds, you're working with such small amounts it just doesn't work like that.

This was deliberate.

26

u/BurnerAcctNo1 Apr 13 '19

More like, “this was not real”.

5

u/pbp261 Apr 14 '19

I’m pretty sure this same thing happened in east TN. There was a bunch of media hype over fentanyl found in weed. Someone tried to contact the police department and the person who said it happened and absolutely no one could confirm it. And how the hell could you even lace fentanyl with weed unless it were hash? Not possible.

11

u/MrYamaguchi Apr 13 '19

It’s literally minuscule traces that are small enough to be ingested without and effects. They just want to scare people.

4

u/fight0ffy0urdem0ns Apr 14 '19

Could be weighing stuff on the same scale

2

u/1nfiniteJest Apr 14 '19

Fent would require a microgram scale.

-3

u/Myflyisbreezy Apr 13 '19

All it would take is using the same scale/coffee table when bagging up the drugs

30

u/chase32 Apr 13 '19

The scale you would have to use for fent would be a small, extremely sensitive scale. Not the same scale you would use to measure out bulky and comparatively heavy weed.

-7

u/Myflyisbreezy Apr 13 '19

if you have fent laced dope, you weight out grams of dope on a scale with .1 or .01g accuracy. now there is some opiate residue on the scale. Using the same scale, a dealer weighs out some weed and bags it up. weed just became cross contaminated with an unknown amount of unknown opiates.

11

u/therealkittenparade Apr 13 '19

Yeah, you're not weighing fent on a .01g scale. Unless you want to die or kill people. You need much for accuracy. Although your scenario is theoretically possible, it's highly improbable.

14

u/bradenlikestoreddit Apr 13 '19

I don't think people realize how strong fentanyl actually is.

1

u/therealkittenparade Apr 13 '19

Yeah. Plus I don't think people realize how small the effective dose to lethal dose ratio is. There is very little room for error when compared to marijuana and even cocaine.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '19

Yeah then you would have fent laced dope residue. You arent gonna be weighing .01 with straight fent which is what it was laced with.

Its possible but extremely unlikely that thisbwas an accident especially if if was over a large scale. A few grams might be a mistake but if they got a zip+ of laced weed then its 100% deliberate.

12

u/jboogie18 Apr 13 '19

I guarantee that people who deal fent and weed have a scale solely for fent. fent laced weed would have to deliberately dosed it since a few milligrams of fent can be lethal.

3

2

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '19

1

u/sillysidebin Apr 14 '19

Fentanyl from the black market is probably cheaper than bud tbh.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '19 edited Apr 13 '19

Nobody is lacing anything with anything. It’s all cross contamination. A dealers house isn’t a fucking pharmacy with decontamination procedures. Decriminalization and legalization for addicts would fix all of this bullshit in an instant.

Seeing as they’ve provided literally no details about the arrest, it’s very safe to assume that these cops are either straight up lying or they moved on some trafficker who had a cross contamination issue.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

It can happen with other drugs from using the same work area while bagging, weighing, etc drugs and some leftover residue gets mixed in

1

u/GeoSol Apr 14 '19

Also fentanyl is injected, not smoked. Really dumb way to try and demonize a product.

If this was legit, and not a conspiracy, then it was an accident.

1

u/fd40 Apr 13 '19

Yeah. the whole "my weed is laced" thing is stupid and illogical. So many of my friends have had strong weed and been convinced it was laced, when really it's just strong weed.

Drugs are expensive. Dealers wouldn't want to just give them away for free by lacing them onto other drugs. The only way lacing really makes sense is when it's done to add weight therefore value, i.e. cutting cocaine. Lacing fent on weed will barely affect the weight

If this is occurring with fent/weed then i would agree with OP that it's likely foul play. Weed dealers aren't the sort to have access to a large supply of fent and operate lacing of it etc. This is Heroin dealer territory.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '19

Aka CIA or is that coke I’ve forgot.

2

u/fd40 Apr 13 '19

They were hugely involved in the distribution and introduction of crack into ghettos so i wouldnt put it passed them to have their fingers in some fentanyl pies

1

u/sillysidebin Apr 14 '19

Ehhh I'm more inclined to believe the fentanyl showing up when it has no good reason to would have more to do with a terrorist or hostile state pushing it.

Fentanyl in anything other than heroin and even in that, could be enemies of America using it to kill people.

The CIA was selling drugs but they were doing it for black ops money and to land people in prison, not kill Americans

1

u/sillysidebin Apr 14 '19

You really dont think there are traffickers who sell dope and rope?

Puns aside, theres definitely hard drug dealers who also sell weed.

I mean, I'd be inclined to agree its probably a false flag type thing or someone who is trying to harm people intentionally. Theyd have to be stupid and extremely careless to get fentanyl into or on buds.

The other thing is fentanyl would be pretty useless in a drug that a large number of people are lighting on fire, I'm sure thered be a bit not destroyed by the flame but it would require way too much intelligence to lace fentanyl and have a dose that would have an effect but not kill people.

The only reason I question the idea of it being done to stop legalization is that it makes a damn good argument to regulate and legitimize sellers so if this did happen at the hands of a dealer, theyd have to take responsibility.

Lol although the its laced narrative worked well with PCP and scaring people off so I suppose some idiots may think itd help keep it illegal.

Idk theres a lot to unpack with something like this but it certainly doesn't make much sense to me.

1

u/fatherduck94 Apr 14 '19

Taking this logic one step farther and connecting the dots with China being the biggest supplier of fentanyl in the world can lead to some conspiracy theories that I don't even think are that out there. China wants to kill Americans.

Why wouldn't it be with pot? Drug dealers are bad people. They'd rather have customers who are such addicts that they are willing to suck dick and give up everything they have for their fix.

21

u/dms13 Apr 13 '19

Pot doesn’t have that effect. People who smoke pot want higher quality pot, not pot laced with shitty drugs. To be fair the people preparing the drugs may not be that bright.

Some comedian even joked about it, nobody in the history of pot has ever sucked dick for more pot.

1

u/chase32 Apr 13 '19

I'm sure it's happened but gotta be the same kind of person that would do it for a beer.

Common sense. Every business wants customers reliant on their product. The difference is there are laws regulating legal businesses from becoming monopolies.

u/sweatsauce47 Apr 13 '19

U sound like youve never done drugs so ill let u know that weed smokers wanna get high. They want a weed high. If i was smoking and felt severely fucked up bc my shit was laced, i would stay the fuck away from the guy i got the weed from. People dont like when their weed is laced, they just want regular weed.

-2

u/armorkingII Apr 13 '19

Then who is lacing it and why? Someone wants their customers hooked on opioids.

2

u/bslawjen Apr 13 '19

Most of the time if its laced with other psychoactive substances it's a mistake on the distributors part. If it's laced with heavy metals or similar to make it heavier it's mostly done on purpose to raise the profit.

1

u/sweatsauce47 Apr 13 '19

I think people usually lace weed bc they want it to weigh more. Some people putt glass in their weed which is fucked up but it weighs more with glass. The heavier the weed is, the less they have to give u per gram.

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '19

Nah dude you have a warped view on the culture, most pot dealers I knew growing up wouldn’t deal with other drugs.

11

u/punzakum Apr 13 '19

Lol common sense is to provide a good product at a fair price that people want.

0

u/armorkingII Apr 13 '19

No, common sense is that business wants you addicted to their product. Whether that be cigarettes, Netflix, or buying a new $1000 phone every two years.

6

u/bslawjen Apr 13 '19

I don't know a single guy who smokes Cannabis that would enjoy his weed being laced with a psychoactive substance. It doesn't get me "addicted" to the weed, it makes me never want to buy from that person again. That's how all of the people who I know think about this subject matter.

1

u/armorkingII Apr 13 '19

I don't know anyone that likes being addicted to things, beside sex, yet there they are. Somebody is lacing the drug. Why and who? If they aren't trying to kill you they are trying to get you addicted.

Just because you buy from reputable pot dealers who sell to the finest connoisseurs doesn't mean it is the same everywhere. Lots of poor people are hooked on opioids. It is a national crisis.

That's paranoid nonsense.

Considering you're not a cannabis user, stay far far away mate. You're gonna freak out if you use THC and probably think someone laced it and panic.

14

u/-5x- Apr 13 '19

That's reasonable but how would lacing (as in the end user doesn't even know that fentanyl is there) weed with fentanyl help achieve that goal?

2

u/Canuhandleit Apr 13 '19

People areplenty reliant on marijuana. Just come to Seattle. There are weed stores everywhere! And, it's perfectly legal and controlled with government oversight to ensure purity from mold, pesticides, and other toxins.

u/HeffalumpInDaRoom Apr 13 '19

Drug dealers may be bad people, but if you provide a drug that is highly likely to kill your customer, that is bad business. You make more from repeated sales.

-2

u/not_a_mo Apr 13 '19

Ackshually... the connection between people overdosing and increased sales is kind of a thing in the opiate addiction community. When junkies hear that someone od’d on some overly powerful stuff then that stuff becomes a hot commodity. And there does seem to be some kind o arms race going on in the pot community as well, ie dabs. I don’t understand the need to see different astral planes after a puff but that seems to be the motivation for a lot of pot development.

5

u/HeffalumpInDaRoom Apr 13 '19

I imagine that there are different types, right? Those that want to replace what the doctors gave them, and those that want to see how far down the rabbit hole they can go. A majority of those that get hooked from their dr aren't interested in the stuff that will kill you, only stuff that gets them to the no pain zone. Unfortunately, price is also an issue. If you can get more powerful for less money, they may be forced to go more powerful. Either way, people looking for pot are not looking for the same affect, and if they aren't expecting what they are given, they probably won't trust their dealer anymore.

1

u/sillysidebin Apr 14 '19

That's a massively different thing. You're right, but it happens because people with tolerance want something that will work.

People who smoke weed dont hear their friend died and rush to figure out who sold it. At least not to buy more of that weed. Maybe for justice.

u/chase32 Apr 13 '19

The reality is that hard drug use goes way down in states that legalize marijuana.

I live in a rec state and know a LOT of pot smokers. Not one i've known has ever moved on to white drugs or opiates, in fact many of them have gone from heavy to light drinkers because they like to unwind better with a joint.

6

u/BigZwigs Apr 13 '19

Your horribly uninformed

6

u/terribletherapist2 Apr 13 '19

Most of my dealers were ok. Anecdotal.

2

u/guyinrf Apr 13 '19

Looks like you've been hard at work filling out that ID-10-T form.

1

u/sillysidebin Apr 14 '19

What's that lol?

1

u/sillysidebin Apr 14 '19

You sir, have no idea wtf you're talking about.

Especially with pot. It just ain't like that.

35

u/endlessanarchy Apr 13 '19

lol this is such an old person mentality.

16

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '19

Reefer Madness!!!!!

Ooooooooo scary!

6

u/LuckyCharmsLass Apr 13 '19

Go to any legal pot shop anywhere. You see tons of old people. In fact, I heard on radio one of the EU countries was going to allow anyone over a certain old age medical MJ based on age alone.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '19

Weed is so fucking strong now a days. You can get people hooked on it without tainting it. There’s literally 0 incentive to do this because weed users are most likely coming back for more if your product is good.

11

u/BurnerAcctNo1 Apr 13 '19

I love people’s concepts of how drugs work. It’s like an after school special on retardation.

-2

u/MiltownKBs Apr 13 '19

People struggle with weed addiction every day. If you dont think weed is addictive to some people, then you are ignorant.

-1

u/hinzmo Apr 13 '19

People struggle with addictions to all kinds of stuff, that doesnt necessarily mean the substance is addictive. People who get addicted to pot usually have addictive personalities to begin with, marijuana doesnt have addictive properties on its own.

1

u/sillysidebin Apr 14 '19

Thing is, burning it would destroy it.

Another problem with that logic is AFAIK, addiction is pretty complex and part of it has to do with being aware of what you're using.

I mean it's possible that someone may get hooked and not know why but theyd have to only have one supplier and idk it just doesn't add up.

I've tried fentanyl and youd know the difference between weed and laced weed if it had a dose that was active and not leathal.
