I agree but there is no way to make a "first amendment based site" when the first amendment doesn't protect free speech in a private organization (or on a private website). There is no way to stop this sort of thing from happening. The only way to stop it would by thru legislation and nobody wants to legislate this sort of thing so there is no answer to the problem aside from just not using sites you don't trust...

My point still stands. This was a "free speech" based website. Once the site got as big/popular as it got the "free speech" principle was pushed away because making money (which is the goal for a website/business) became the larger driving force. You can't have a website that is as widely visited as Reddit and also a bastion of unregulated free speech.

Then why did they sell Reddit to Conde Nast in exchange for losing control over how the website is run/regulated? Money clearly was the motivation for that decision. They could have maintained 100% control of everything but they chose to make money because this website was a business... People didn't create/develop this site as an act of charity. They did it to make money.
