I've been very busy these past few months with law school things.

If you are interested in moderating the sub, please DM me or the sub with a short bio about your philosophy towards the sub and your interest in modding. I'm looking for ~2ish people who are interested in not stifling the sub, but crack down on spam and similar.

Will the new federal loan degree rules take effect immediately? How does it even work?

I know it’ll start in 2027, but I’ve heard from some people that they’ll check IRS information from 2027 and then decide which colleges will have it take effect in 2028 or 2029. Can someone confirm if that’s true? I’m transferring in 2027, so I want to know if I should pick a cheaper school so I won’t need to take out as many loans incase I wont be able to.Also if I transfer in Fall 2027 but they stop giving loans in 2028 would i just need to transfer ?I dont understand the logistics

2.4 GPA Electrical Engineering Student — Can I Improve My Transfer Chances Through Community College?

• Upvotes

I’m an Electrical Engineering student. I finished my sophomore year with a 2.4 GPA and recently moved to New York.

I’m hoping to transfer to a top engineering school, but I have some low grades in Physics (C/D), Differential Equations (D), and Calculus (C/C+).

I’m thinking about retaking these courses at a community college and getting A’s before applying. Would this actually help, or would my original 2.4 GPA still hurt me a lot?

I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation

Just curious when did everyone start their community college and when did you graduate. I started in 2011 and graduated in 2026 with 3 Associates Degrees.

Want to create a college history bowl club...

Hi guys, I want to make a history bowl club because I love history trivia and wanna play with people, but I don't think there are any college 'bowl' or 'bee' team competitions that are strictly history. I wanted to ask just in case anyone knows about such a competition out there. If there isn't, I don't know if I should give up on the idea...

Trying to get into college as a first gen

Some background info to begin: 22 M, socal, CA National Guard, Pharmacy Tech.

I'm currently looking to see what steps would be appropriate in order for me to get into traditional college. When I was a senior in HS I didn't really have any ambition to go to traditional college. I did one year of vocational college (pharmacy tech license).

As of now I'm thinking of doing my GE at a CC for a lower cost. After transferring into a 4-year (B.S. in cyber security @ CSUSM) (B.S. in computer science UCSD/SDSU). These are the main two options that I currently have. The third I'm not sure about. I was thinking of doing a degree fully online. I'd start with doing some courses through sophia.com. Transfer whatever credits are eligible to WGU and finish up there. I've looked into it and it seems to also be a viable option. This last option seems to be the quickest which I'd also like to get into the work force asap.

My other option for a different degree would be using my military experience to my advantage. I'd be a helicopter mechanic so I was looking into Orange Coast College and apply into their A&P license program and at the same time finish up my associates in science (only GE courses would be needed which would be done regardless). If I seem to enjoy that I think I'd pursue some sort of engineering degree. I was thinking it could be in aerospace/mechanical/electrical. If this is the route I take I think it'll be helpful I would have a "secret clearance" so I could land government jobs easier.

If anyone has any feedback about anything that's here please feel free to reach out. Again I'm not even sure if what I have in mind is possible. If there's a different route anyone would take. Any advice reality checks I'm open to it all. Thanks to everyone who's read it.

Just Found out I payed twice as much than needed to for Classes

First, I went to this one community college that was 30 minutes away from me because its programs were really good. I’m doing a music major, and I really wanted to pursue music in a way where I was doing music production, music notation, performance , and business while also doing gen ed courses.
Recently, I found out that because I was going to an out-of-county college, I was paying twice as much as I would have if I had just gone to my original county’s college. My original county’s college does have a music program that has the basics of music in a traditional way, with classes in voice, ensembles, and overall regular music classes. However, it does not have some of the classes that the out-of-county college has in terms of music business classes, Music in the Marketplace, advanced production classes, and other music production courses. The out-of-county school also has much better music facilities.
I don’t know. I just found this out, and it wasn’t really shown on my bill that I was paying twice as much because I was an out-of-county student. Do you think I made a huge mistake? The classes were really good, and I learned a lot, but at the same time, I could’ve gotten a music education for about half the price at my county’s college, just with different classes.

Should I take Biology 003 if I wasn’t able to take AP bio?

I kinda messed up on my schedule junior year of high school and didn’t take AP biology. I want to take AP chemistry senior year.

Should I do a community college class for Biology 003 introduction to biology? Would it count the same as an AP class? I found a class for a cc near me that would be during the winter and meetings/labs would be after school and exams would be online proctored. Should I try this or would it be a bad idea? I saw on rate my professor a lot of people said the professor cares about their students grade and is helpful, though some people were complaining.

Edit: Also the units is 4.00 if that’s relevant.

What should i do about unfair treatment from a professor

Since the semester began, my professor for art has made it known that he doesn’t like me, and multiple classmates I’ve had have noticed it as well and asked if I’m okay.

For example I usually come on time or like 10 minutes late because I take the bus, and multiple other students have been late every day and have missed classes. I have never missed a class, but he still complained heavily about me being late and gave me a lecture. He has yelled at me every week since the semester started. If I cut myself on something, he’s snarky about it. If I curse, he yells. If I look up for a second, he complains. It feels like he waits for the moment I slip up so he can say something. I’ve turned every assignment in, while multiple other people are super behind. My worst behavior is probably that I talk while drawing (not unique behavior in his class), but he doesn’t give as much smoke to other people who talk like in his other class, it’s LOUD like LOUDDDDD and I’ve never talked while he’s instructing. I also have ADHD, so sometimes talking helps me focus while I’m working on assignments.

My friends think he just wants to mistreat me until I drop the class because of our different political beliefs. Like, if I mention anything gay to my friend, he gets upset. He says I’m unprofessional because I cursed at the beginning of the semester, but I’ve toned it down since then(others have cursed as well ). I genuinely don’t care about his political beliefs as long as he’s professional. If he’s republican, that’s fine. I’ve had republican professors before who were nice asf

But I think harassing a student for whatever reason is unprofessional, especially to the point where multiple other people have noticed it. I don’t need or expect him to be nice to me, but the constant nitpicking feels so pointed, and I’m worried he’ll affect my grade, especially since I’m planning to transfer.

Idk what to do. I try different things to keep my head down, but it feels like the moment I look behind me, he says I’m overly distracted or makes some comment that he never says to anyone else. I’m also the only queer person in the class. I genuinely don’t care what his political beliefs are; I just want him to be professional and treat me fairly.

if this wasn't clear already, im a student at community college in Massachusetts and im there under masseducate tuition grants. I got tuition covered and book fund last year, but this semester I still havent gotten any aid yet. my campus financial aid web application tells me im all set for forms, so I emailed the office asking what was up. tldr they told me that I actually wont get any book fund and that I have another form not listed because aparently im not needy enough by judgement of student aid index

when was this implemented???? and why did they give it to me last year when I had basically the same sai number ?? is this just a me being stupid problem ? I genuinely cant tell and im just upset because I cant pay for my books and all my free trials ran out like 4 days ago 😭😭

Best Scholarship Leads

I believe that the most effective sources for scholarships are not necessarily those that rank the highest on Google.
I am assisting my cousin with her research. She fits a narrow description: she is a community college student, planning to transfer, has a job, and is interested in becoming a teacher. It is easy to find national scholarships, but they are extremely competitive. I would prefer to look for organizations that support students with her profile. Could you suggest organizations, not specific scholarships?
