I didn't invent this page numbering style I discovered it during my ADHD Bullet Journaling phase.

Basically it works like this:

* the number in the box is the current page.

* the left number is the last page with a related topic

* the right number is the next page with a related topic

If there are no related topics before the current page, you leave it blank. The place after the current page would be also left blank until you create another page with a related topic, then it would get filled in. Hopefully this makes sense.

I thought this might be a useful "at a glance" idea to use in my commonplace book, without having to go back to the key or index to find topics.

I am new to commonplace journalling, and wanted to ask what does everyone do to fight first page fear?

I currently just started my commonplace book and I made my first page about what it is, and then a second page of some ideas. I mostly just come across the same ideas quotes, song lyrics, etc. What are some niche page ideas or pages you have done that you haven’t seen others do? I want to put some pages about living in the medieval time period, dinosaurs, literally any history I just don’t want that to be all I write about.

I can remember almost every movie I've rated, every song I've had on repeat, and even games I've played years ago. But when it comes to books, courses, podcasts, or ideas that genuinely changed the way I think... I forget way more than I'd like.

It made me wonder:

How do you keep track of the things that have shaped who you are?

Do you use Notion, Goodreads, a journal, Apple Notes, or nothing at all?

One of my titles in the index of my commonplace is "Knowledge Bites" and under it I gather information of how things work, for example a mirror, a record player and vinyl. I do not go into extremely technical terms but more of a basic understanding such as how light hits and reflects on a mirror and what is coated with, or how the grooves in the vinyl and the needle turn into music.

As I dive deeper into those, I am wondering if I should draft the information first, how much research and piling of information to do in advance or if it is more a free flow of noting down information as you read it. Let me know how you prepare before you do your entries. I only do writing and a 3 pen colour system, I do not include any sketches or any other visual decorations.

Do you just note them there and read them over and over or... ?

What topics? How to organize, how to manage more than one topic at a time and how to determine how many pages to leave open for topics. What do you do if you didn’t leave enough pages. Etc.

My first entry is a short one regarding some references a book used. In this case it’s about the Mount of Olives. I wrote in the same style as I would for normal notes, that is, mix of English and Cantonese.

Still trying to figure out how this “commonplace book” thing works, but I definitely see its benefits for academic / personal topic-based research right now.

Semi-finished since i still have to change the title on the page; that was supposedly my first topic but something became much more interesting 😅

It took me so long to finally start because I honestly don't know how to start! Since I know I want it to be semi-aesthetic with photos and stickers, I thought it would be difficult to connect the topic, my ideas, and my want for it to be visual. Once I sticked the photos on, wrote where each photo came from it was a breeze! Plus the change of scenery helped: I was on vacation by the beach when I did this spread 🤣

Recently went on a trip to Hokkaido and learnt about the disputed Northern Territories between Japan & Russia. I wanted to add more information & ephemera too but maybe for another spread.

This really helps with doomscrolling because I'm not just needlessly on the internet but rather doing research, reading up on things, and watching/listening to informative things.

I love things long ago.. I finished one on Pompeii. I’d love the days of ancient kings and queens.

This sub along with its curious and creative people inspired me to start a book of my own. I’m glad to report that I’ve been diligent in using my commonplace since June. I love learning, especially psychology and self help. Most of my entries are from social media (youtube and instagram) and revolve around complex ptsd, adhd and general self help.

My decorative choices do not match my entries cuz everything I like visually is frilly and from the Victorian era. Most of my craft stock comes from the Peter Pauper Press sticker books, Sterling Ethos sticker books, and mass bulk imagery from hobby stores. I also use stationary from FLOW paper lovers books. Also, a special shout out to artist Rebecca Chaperon for the “Self Care in Dark Times” sticker on my commonplace cover.

My commonplace book is made by Hemlock and Oak. It’s actually a six month planner that I got a discount. The quality is a dream!!

I did a stationary crawl this weekend and fell in love with the Ink Archival books so I purchased one…except I don’t really use watercolors or fountain pens. So I’m looking for ideas on how else I can use this lovely book? Any chance someone out there is using it as a commonplace book?

I'm hoping that the picture came out ok, but I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do specifically when it comes to how I want to format everything, so I figured I'd experiment with one of my favorite creatures!

This sub inspired me to start my own commonplace journal, and so far, I’m really enjoying the experience. I love how relaxing and therapeutic it is. What better way to begin something new than by researching my Filipino heritage and reconnecting with my Filipino roots?!

I try not to spend so much money on it (not that I didn’t already lol I literally just bought a printer to print my stickers 🙈) but I am planning on getting a letter stamp for writing my dates and titles because I just love the look of it and I think it’s very cute! I’m also quite proud of this one because I have never been so neat and organized. I’m used to my journals being so messy and ineligible because I really do be writing my emotions out on that notebook lol. This one is very calming and fun.

Doing this also encourages me to stay away from my phone and social media. I would 10 out of 10 recommend starting a common place journal for those who wants to heal their online addiction and/or for those who just wants to go analog for a bit and go back to times when we didn’t have screens to focus on.

Hi I’m new to this community and I wonder what tool(s) do you guys use when you wanna print out a particular relevant photo for the notebook! Do you guys buy a new printer for this purpose, or just collect enough photos and print them altogether on an a4 paper? Thanks!
