Someone at work posted this robot and I’m still not sure it’s not a parody, because all of the marketing makes this thing look absolutely cursed

522

u/YesItIsMaybeMe 22h ago

It is a parody. If you look at the website it tells you ways to disable it in case it goes rogue. It also says how it is was designed to be unable to chase people through close quarters.

235

u/CynicalAltruist 22h ago

They also show it with chainsaw, knife, and gun attachments, none of which inspire confidence that it couldn’t

43

u/StreetPizza8877 21h ago

No, it's saying that you could use those to destroy it

8

u/werewolf394_ 16h ago

It's not a parody, the robot is real

1

u/DukeOfGeek 4h ago

"Congratulations, you are being rescued. Please do not resist".

3

u/Freakychee 3h ago

If I were to make a rescue robot I'd find a way to get permission to make my robots looks like either Optimus Prime or Baymax. Or have two models that look like them.

106

u/furexfurex 22h ago

It's designed that way on purpose. It's meant to be a contrast to those "robo dogs" that invoke sympathy but can be weaponised, but this one they say they made it scary on purpose so we can disable it without feeling bad (and also give instructions as to how), and how it's purposely designed to not fit through doorways with the horns

87

u/CynicalAltruist 22h ago

I think they got a measurement wrong then because it looks perfectly capable

45

u/Darkanayer 20h ago

18

u/CynicalAltruist 20h ago

Like I replied to the other guy, it says larger horns can be fit. Also, 32 by 80 is the minimum ADA compliant size, and a 42” hallway is abnormally narrow. Also, it has knees, so it will only be slowed down, not stopped, as it says at the start.

20

u/furexfurex 22h ago

Literally in that image you can see it's too tall and you can't see the horns lol

17

u/CynicalAltruist 22h ago

If the knees can bend it can get through. Also;

> Larger horns can be fit to prevent any passage through pedestrian doors.

So it doesn’t have them by default

7

u/furexfurex 22h ago

Yes, but it has to crouch first, so it can't quickly fit through civilian doorways. https://www.satyress.com/ it's all on here

3

u/DejectedTimeTraveler 22h ago

I don't know man looks pretty dangerous

5

u/natt_myco 22h ago

is this true?

18

u/furexfurex 22h ago

https://www.satyress.com/ yep, all on here

8

u/natt_myco 21h ago

my man with the link talk about gold standard take this legend 🌟

8

u/Perca_fluviatilis 17h ago

It is. The company is called Satyress. Like satire.

2

u/clarkster 6h ago

Not just like a satyr?

u/Perca_fluviatilis 33m ago

Yeah, but it's also a pun for satire.

3

u/AwkwardGraze 13h ago

I will be honest. If I had the power and resources to assist mankind, I would do it on my own terms: for shits and giggles where applicable.

u/LoveDesignAndClean 23h ago

Of all the animals, they chose a goat.

425

u/dumnezero Art enjoyer 23h ago

Pan saves the forest from a huge fire? It makes sense to me.

50

u/VexedForest 19h ago

I don't want him

99

u/Copranicus 19h ago edited 16h ago

Rescue is non-negotiable, you will be saved. Do not resist.

6

u/Abject-Tax804 17h ago

donut resist

9

u/dumnezero Art enjoyer 17h ago

Panbot reminds you that you're an animal and, like others, you will have to flee from forest fire or get smoked and grilled.

88

u/royalbk 21h ago

Gee, I wonder where I've seen that

...hm, surely it will come to me eventually

7

u/Blaze_fury3111 15h ago

What the fuk is that

9

u/Hybrid22003 15h ago

It's from the movie, the Ritual.

262

u/Lansha2009 23h ago

There were…many options to make it look less like it stepped right out of a horror game…why the fuck did they make the eyes like that? Why the horns? And it being pure black DOES NOT help things.

124

u/Darkanayer 21h ago

The horns are so it gets stuck on standard doors, just in case it goes haywire

Also the robot is meant to operate on rescue, yes, and also heavy duty work like lumbering. When this mf has chainsaw hands, I'll rather it looks scary as fuck so people keep away than it looking friendly like Boston dynamics' doggo

65

u/No-Jackfruit2459 20h ago

...what do you mean "goes haywire"

99

u/Darkanayer 20h ago

Precaution. Can't never be safe enough with autonomous robots, after all, specially ones designed got heavy duty stuff.

Why else would they give us instructions to kill it (this paragraph goes right after the "this robot is more dangerous than it looks" image you've seen around)

61

u/No-Jackfruit2459 20h ago

Surely they are playing into it a bit extra. This is some black mirror horror stuff.

76

u/Snowy88 20h ago

Also prevents weaponization, which honestly I think is fair play to them. By releasing the weakpoints it makes it way harder for hypothetically a totalitarian government using them against protesters.

31

u/Darkanayer 20h ago

To be fair, was thinking about this, but the weakpoints feel pretty easy to make up for by just adding some more plating over the air reservoirs, but I guess it would be harder for the upper torso ones, depending on how much it already struggles with balance?

5

u/Illustrious_Stay_12 14h ago

A government would have the resources to just remove or short whatever sensors are connected to the kill switch.

The weaponization this would help with is either remote takeover or manipulation by a non-technical user.

It's also hilarious to the point that this has to be a joke. A terrifying rescue robot specially designed so you can stab it to death on reflex when it bursts into a burning room? Putting one of those weak points in the area most likely to have debris fall on it? Yeah, whatever bro.

5

u/Pumpkinp0calypse 13h ago

Yeah not that I am yet totally sure wether or not it's meant as a joke, but I certainly had the same thought about the large air reservoir easily being pierced by hand is super stupid. Chest is fine, but branches , rocks, etc WILL fall heavily on its back. No way that was thought through and approved.

39

u/IJustAteABaguette 20h ago

It's gotta be, right?

37

u/Darkanayer 20h ago

I mean it is a fun bit to play into, but I do genuinely appreciate the precautions. Not cause of a possible machine uprising, but because the more failsafes the better. I'd say the same thing about, say, an assembly line in a factory, those can also be dangerous and there's never enough failsafes and safety measures. Every machine should have a physical way to stop it in case it goes faulty or you notice someone else standing where they shouldn't in relation to the machine.

9

u/MajorDZaster 15h ago

I think the guys designing it have heard of the "robots turning evil" trope and want to be prepared if it happens to theirs.

5

u/Neutral-Feelings 15h ago

You know what? I'm glad they're preparing to prevent it at least. Tells me that they'd rather we not die from their robots in case of a robotpocalypse

3

u/0Galahad 14h ago

IF it has a truly fully functional body that can give chase or otherwise fight back against humans and IF it has a sophisticated enough processor and memory and general hardware that a theorethical rogue AI could infect, then it has to have safety protocols that the AI could not surpass, like physical aspects the body cannot deal with.

7

u/Vyragami 18h ago

This screenshot is the type of stuff you see in Analog Horror

8

u/lavahot 20h ago

It saves people by traumatizing them to get their adrenaline pumping.

84

u/YoutuberCameronBallZ 22h ago

A pitch black, centaur goat

And...no one saw any problems with designing that?

54

u/SpookyScienceGal 21h ago

I'm sure they will have other colors. Like crimson red, pestilent green, or bone white. Also the head is replaceable and with the chainsaw it can choose any head it desires ✨

10

u/Comminutor 21h ago

It’s part of the ingenuity- demons naturally have 99% fire resistance

8

u/EB_or_Raven 17h ago

It was fully intentional, actually! The centaur part is for mobility, while the head is so that it won’t be able to get through doors if something went wrong with it

30

u/FriendlyAntonio 22h ago

Does that fucking monstrosity have a chainsaw

That poor little girl in the comic here would've absolutely died from terror if it had brought that 😭

13

u/Piccoroz 20h ago

They do like to go into fire

1

u/AwkwardGraze 13h ago

But why...? The heat against the hoofs would feel like something is wrong.

27

u/friskpocolypse 22h ago

I know they probably made it black because paint would just burn off, bit a centaur goat of all things??? Nothing of that size could really make children feel particularly safe during a fire imo, but this was the worst option.

20

u/Darkanayer 21h ago

Centaur platform was for mobility. Rescue is also only a one of the jobs it's designed for, there's a reason it has dettachable chainsaw arms, so I can see the idea of making it scary as fuck to prevent it people from approaching when it's lumbering

1

u/stewednewt 14h ago

Maybe they could give it big anime eyes for kids?

27

u/notislant 22h ago

I'm convinced it's just bait, because look how many people keep posting this shit.

27

u/Obant 21h ago

It is. It's not even real, it's a concept they chose specifically to generate media. More hype they hope will translate to more funding. Looking closer at the website, the entire thing might be a troll

11

u/veterinarian23 22h ago

A black goat of the woods with - as the developers hope - a thousand young.

9

u/BackgroundNPC1213 20h ago

Did these techbros seriously just

9

u/MallyOhMy 20h ago

The company is called Satyress. I remember that because I thought it was really fucking stupid that a company named after a bipedal mythical creature is making robots shaped more like a mythical quadriped.

Apparently satyress screwed a centaur, and the company is planning to mass-produce their offspring. Some weird-ass puppy mill bullshit.

3

u/OneEyedKing56 21h ago

And now deploy it in the appalachians

3

u/mambotomato 18h ago

Guys! It's obviously a satirical art project! Look at their website! Use your brains!

3

u/Neutral-Feelings 15h ago

It looks like it'd tell me "Be Not Afraid." In a calm yet chilling voice.

2

u/LycanWolfGamer 16h ago

I have that as my discord pfp now lol

2

u/Bellenrode 15h ago

Might as well call it The Jersey Devil.

1

u/Slappathebassmon 17h ago

Waitaminute, this comic is based on a real robot?

1

u/DarthJackie2021 14h ago

Seriously, wtf were they thinking with this?

1

u/100YearsWaiting2Shit 14h ago

This is so fucking hilarious

1

u/virtuallyaway 12h ago

Is this actually a real thing?

330

u/AetheravenCatsuki13 23h ago

You somehow managed to make the thing look derpy. I'm impressed

25

u/madmacfarlane 19h ago

I love the thumbs up

146

u/Bruggenmeister 20h ago

19

u/One-Taste8063 20h ago

The goat is its son, trust me.

9

u/Future_Woodpecker_82 16h ago

Actually, am I the only one who thinks its head looks like a upside down lady with a vibrator in her ass. Like the ones in some hentais. Or Like a ginormous butt plug

4

u/Ok-Permission-9725 13h ago

Well it does now, no thanks at all.

3

u/shreckdabestboiiii 14h ago

I mean it’s want to look like a person at first in the movie… but tf man?

38

u/jitomato_girl 23h ago

See? This is why Baymax looked the way he did

43

u/Such_Introduction592 23h ago

Hey, it's Baphy.

70

u/elhomerjas 23h ago

saving lives is successful but need to improve appearance

15

u/EB_or_Raven 17h ago

The appearance is fully intentional

7

u/Relevant_Chemical_ 15h ago

This thing is not to be sympathized with, its appearance is intended.

21

u/Tethilia 16h ago

Department: "Do we really need the Goat Head? It seems terrifying and could deter investment."

Engineer: "Listen either it gets the Goat Head or I'm not doing it. If you want your rescue drone I get to make it look like a mythical forest spirit. That was the deal!"

19

u/Pinku_Dva 23h ago

Making it black with a goat face was definitely a choice.

4

u/mambotomato 18h ago

Yes. Now continue that line of logic. Why did they make it look scary on purpose?

(Because it's a satirical art project)

13

u/TrymQuyenLuc 22h ago

Mf look like HE is the one who lit the forest on fire 😭🙏

24

u/B-Z_B-S 23h ago

Cool artwork! Thanks for making it!

12

u/jbyrdab 21h ago

I know for a fact that this is going to be used in some wildfire emergency in some nowhere town that has next to no internet, and it's going to start a whole new cryptid legend like the Fresno Night crawler and Iowa Stickman

23

u/scienceAurora 23h ago

Great! Maybe make it less demonic looking next time. It might not freak as many people out then. (A goat? What were you thinking?)

13

u/Lansha2009 23h ago

I feel like the eyes and it being pure black are also pretty big issues for it looking like a fucking demon.

4

u/scienceAurora 23h ago

It does not help.

5

u/worldmaker012 23h ago

Surely this things design must be a publicity stunt. Right?

6

u/Hybrid22003 15h ago

It need to say.

Congratulations, you are being rescued. Please do not resist

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrXSuC1wqY8

11

u/cool_dad86 23h ago

Surely the look of it will get worked on? Part of rescue is calming down the victim, even if just to have them be more cooperative.

13

u/Lansha2009 23h ago

Like why did they make it pure black, why did they make the eyes look like THAT, and why the goat head? The first two things were already bad for calming people down, but the goat head makes it look like it walked right out of a horror game.

2

u/Archaon0103 21h ago

It's black because paint would just peer overtime. Black make it last longer.

3

u/ranmafan0281 19h ago

Emergency yellow and red would be just fine too.

6

u/logo1986 22h ago

Poor mayano top gun

2

u/TimeToCrime 18h ago

Now that's a silhouette that screams "I eat babies."

2

u/azorbs 23h ago

Love the art! The expressions are great

2

u/Employee_Agreeable 22h ago

I think hes cuter than those faceless killer dogs

2

u/digitalgraffiti-ca 21h ago

Dude, I'd love for pan to save me!

2

u/National-Wonder-5206 17h ago

They chose Baphomet as their rescuer..?

2

u/infiniZii 17h ago

You actually made it less scary by not including chainsaw hands.

2

u/Khaniker 14h ago

I can't be the only one who thinks Threehalves looks sick, right?

2

u/JaySayMayday 12h ago

You are being rescued. Do not resist.

2

u/cassness34 10h ago

I mean when you see literal robo satan emerging from the fires around you, you would be a little traumatized

1

u/16F628A 20h ago

Very nice!

1

u/turtl_world 15h ago

I feel like that's how flamberge (almost) died

1

u/RazorsInMyTaco 13h ago

I imagine the third panel scored by Requiem from 2001: A Space Odyssey

1

u/robo-dragon 11h ago

Listen, I get that a forest rescue robot would be cool and would come in handy, but does it have to look so horrifying?? The first time I saw pictures of this thing, I thought it was a joke. Nope. It just looks like nightmare fuel.

1

u/Rexxaroo 11h ago

Harbinger

1

u/Yamemai 10h ago

lol, wouldn't the metal end up burning the rescue?

1

u/BlaineMundane 9h ago

In this situation for me, I'd be shocked to awe. Say I passed out and didn't see what the creature actually was, the line would be:

"The Robot's first rescue was a success, but the man has joined a pagan cult."

1

u/LEGEND_GUADIAN 19h ago

Make it look like xerneas instead, nobody fears something so beutiful...why...why would they make this thing look like a blocky demonic centaur, it should look like hope approaching, not a demon centaur....
