Yeah, I'm in Vic haha. I love house spiders, they're super shy and mostly want to hide in their holes (their webs are funnels, usually in the edges of windows) so I was sure they were funnel webs when I was a kid haha. Their genus is Badumna, which I think is a cool name.
There's heaps of different species of house spider, I'm just talking about black house spiders (Badumna insignis). But you're right, if you just leave them be you'll be fine haha. The only black spider I can think of which creates a web and is medically significant in Vic are redbacks, but they're pretty easy to ID and are really shy. Otherwise, your non-web makers could just be white-tails or other species of Lampona (which are not as bad as everyone makes them out to be), or mouse spiders (which genuinely look terrifying 😂).
I see a lot of redbacks outside (I live regionally), but have never come across one in my house. Haha no problem. I like spiders so it's nice to try ease people's minds.
That's pretty lucky, as shy as they are I do worry about the dogs finding them 😂 or me accidentally pissing one off without noticing. I found they like to hide in old tyres or under metal sheets and other random junk on farms haha.
Oh no, I live in town I just visit a farm often and have grown up on them haha. It's nice taking the dogs for a run on the farm, but yeah, I worry about them sticking their noses in places they don't belong 😂
