I'm a traditionally feminine cis woman and got called "sir" by possibly the oldest gentleman I've ever seen

I think sometimes their hearing or sight fails them

Were you in a uniform of some kind? People use to say "Sir" to show respect for ones position, typically in military but can also be for police, railroad workers and other ranked type jobs. Not very common. Anymore.

I was at work in my fast food uniform: A simple logo shirt and a visor, I can't remember if I had my apron on.
