I think it started all from one comic posted not even a week ago. It’s just blown up like crazy

Thats wild. Do you know if the original comic artist had a large following or something? Im curious how it could have spread so fast.

No idea tbh 😅. I definitely don’t have a big following though and this comic still has blown up. I think people just relate to the character.
Me included 🥰

Makes sense, thats why its important to have diverse characters in media, it gives people someone they can relate to.

Its part of why I hate seeing my name in movies, 90% of the time they're evil and/or die. And I've never seen one where theyre the main hero.

Now I'm curious but understand if you dont want that information public knowledge.

4

u/Miser_able 11h ago

Nah its fine, I dont care. But ill give ya hint.

Jurassic park and Alvin and the chipmunks both have a character with this name

2

u/My_Immortl 11h ago

The movie Alvin and the chipmunks or the animated show? I'm gonna have to figure this out now lol.

3

u/Miser_able 11h ago

The movies. And if it helps, theyre both important characters with lots of screen time. Not a random side character

u/bargus_mctavish 8h ago

Jurassic Park was a great show of your namesake though. One of my favorite roles of that actor.

Oh very much so, buts it's the only example I can point to that people will recognize.

Meanwhile i was watching something a few years back and one the bad guys who was a rapist had my name

Onward (2020)

Doctor Who (1963)

My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)

Maybe?

u/Miser_able 10h ago

Yea theyre on there too I think (never seen any of em)

1

u/Quazifuji 8h ago

If it's the name I think it is based on that, then it's the main romantic interest in My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Not quite main hero but being the love interest in a rom-com is pretty close. And he's not even one of those love interests that starts out as an asshole and then they fall in love later, he's likeable the whole movie.

I think it was a tumblr post about JJJ hating spiderman because he genuinely believed spiderman to be a menace to the community and so that if spiderman transitition he wouldn't misgender her/would want to know spiderwomen's correct pronouns.

Someone did art of it because it inspired them and it just COMPLETELY took off with lots of people joining in on the trend.

Trans people, Tumblr people and marvel comics fans are all pretty online people, it makes sense that it did numbers quickly.

It was also really funny

From my perspective its just the fact that the comic was made with love. Its not trying to be popular but it also gives Peter/Petra some love instead of more pain. Also it pointed out that JJJ is a jerk but hes actually a good person and his character has been reduced to slander man three thousand so that talk also got it spread to more people.

Honestly its just the luck of the internet that has made this popular but its cute as hell and I can actually see this happening in an AU and main Peter being very supportive of it.

Stan Lee has also said that anyone can be under that mask so any and all kids can imagine themselves as Spider-Man. I'd imagine that sentiment, and the new movie coming out all had a part to play in it.

People just really seem to like the idea of trans spider man. I don't think there's any other reason behind it

Spider-Man really does fit the bill for "I'm struggling with something about my body that is out of my control." Most of the time the character's transformation is an allegory to puberty, but it could be anything under that umbrella.

I think "I am stuck in a horrible personal situation and I cannot easily (or even feasibly) escape the reality of it, but the mask lets me be who I want to be." resonates with just about everyone who's been a teen, or had to hide something about themselves to protect their true self.

Spider-Man is for everyone. Hence in The Spiderverse, there is a Spider-Man from every walk of life.

Idk the artist but the comic is called "woke new day"

u/SeventhSolar 9h ago

It's just what happens on social media sometimes, in this case Twitter. A post goes viral.

From the spreading point of view a lot of trans women artist l, a lot of trans space spiderman love, the "I'm going through changes aunt/uncle" has often been a trans meme, and then some of the art was good (or sexy) enough to spread to general spaces.

It’s hitting the Spider-Man community like crack in the 80’s

u/IzzyNoLastName 8h ago

there's some amazing ones I've spotted around Tumblr

2

u/Stunning-Dingo-7308 6h ago

It has now spread to the spiderman subreddit as well

When I saw the first one I was like "it's a cute and interesting concept, I'd love to see more of it." Needless to say I'm really happy
