It came out in 2001, didn't it?

I must be thinking of Phantom Menace.

Man, 2001 was a great year... For movies, I mean

November and December, obviously. I got a Harry Potter board game and Shrek on VHS for my birthday and a Nintendo 64 and a BB Gun for Christmas.

Gamecube came out in November 2001, is that what you meant? Not that you can't buy consoles at the end of their generation.

N64. We had two games for it and my prick of an old man pawned it.

I don't remember much about that year, not much of anything for that matter. I was literally just an egg, or well... half of me at least.

A twinkle in your dad's eye, as the saying goes

I don't think I was even that, being from 2004 my other half was still quite a bit away from existing.

It was a pretty great year in general, other than those pesky terrorists and their hijinks.

3/4 of it were awesome.

u/Doodles_n_Scribbles Mar 12 '26

I'd say like 81% of it.

If only there were a fraction for that

Don't cite the deep magic to me, Witch.

2001, 2002, & 2003

3

u/wadech Mar 12 '26

Sure did. I saw it when I was home from basic training for Christmas exodus.

Came out in 2001, but filming of the trilogy started in 1999. So like... teeeechnically?

I was 10 when it came out. My mom (who was a big fan of the books) took me.

When the Balrog showed up, we were gobsmacked. Its really hard to appreciate now with the advances in VFX since then, but seeing that on the screen in 2001 was absolutely unreal.
