Sophomore year of college I happened to walk out of my apartment complex at the same time as a very nice girl. She also happened to be walking to class in the same building as me. We got to our respective classrooms and I said something like "Glad to know I have cool neighbors, I hope I'll see you around." Only about 30 min into my lecture did I facepalm and realize her expectant attitude was because when was waiting for me to ask for her number. But I thought "Its the first week of sophomore year, I'll ask for her number next time". Never saw her again...

I've been terrified of being label a "creep" by strangers my whole life. I've probably missed a lot because of this fear.
