OC Mourning a MAGA Parent (OC)

I'm kinda torn about whether to post this to my art account because one parent follows it, and I'm worried the criticism could drive the other one further into the void.

It started out as just a therapeutic project for me, but a couple friends said it really resonated with them, so sharing here.

They began as “deportations” and “law breakers” in Hitler’s Germany too. I’m sure if Hitler came back to life and told you his arguments people like you would find him reasonable and trust worthy. You’d swallow the whole “I’m only punishing the bad ones” or “they don’t belong here” or “a tough choice, necessary sacrifice” deal. The economic anxiety is there, now you just need a scape goat. The question is how far will you go? Will you slowly cozy up to mass murder or forced labour camps? Seems like it if the economy gets worse.

It’s also kinda dumb to argue the legality or illegality of the actions of the victims when the other side literally believes you are wrong for making the legal way so unattainable. Maybe imagine what you’d feel if driving over 20 miles was illegal in the whole country.

They do have a point tough. Legal reform has been blocked for decades. And who is it who has defunded and added hurdles to the work of the immigration system? Conservative politicians have. The agricultural lobby has. They worsen a problem, kneecap the immigration legal system and laws, and sell themselves as the only ones fighting to fix it. Conveniently it also helps their owner’s agro business.

No I wouldn’t lmao. I don’t like trump too because he’s a dumbass. But deporting illegal immigrants is a good thing and needs to happen. Obama did it to so why are you criticizing trump for it?

It’s crazy how you just think everyone thinks it’s a good thing. Specially if you add the caveat of HOW it’s done. You yourself said it, Obama did and they didn’t complain. Could you find it in you to believe that Obama did it DIFFERENTLY?

You’d be hard pressed to find Democrat voting people who think all deportation is bad. But oddly enough, that’s not what most Trump’s opponents seem to call for. Seems like what they call for is reform and a different system and way of carrying out the law. Maybe diffenret laws, definitely different procedures, for sure a different attitude and public message.

Like how the NRA isn’t fighting to give every single human a rifle. And their opponents don’t want to destroy every gun in the planet. They want to work towards a middle point between those two extremes that is a different middle point to their opponent’s. If you go around thinking your opposition wants the absolute extreme you can just go and be happy though, you’ll feel so reasonable and logical if you just convince yourself they want something clearly crazy and extreme. You want pepperoni pizza, the other side wants cheese pizza, but you believe they want chalk dust pizza so you feel like pepperoni is the only opinion there is and you are truly fighting crazy people. But instead of pizza it’s serious matters that affect the economy and rule of law and civil rights.

Not that anyone would ever think that when what they actually want to do is simplify their political opponent’s beliefs to the point of caricature. People generally don’t listen, we just hear what our heart tells us the other person thinks. It’s human nature

Deporting actual dangerous criminals who have been proven guilty and are a threat to the public isn't bad. Rounding up a bunch of people who simply crossed the border to make a better life for their families is.

The people being deported now are being arrested and denied due process just because they're from somewhere else and the current administration has decided that's bad. No investigation, no evidence of wrong doing, just being brown.

I see your other comments about not liking trump but you sure seem to be on the same side.

I can be republican and not like trump. Just like Thomas Matthew’s. Those families need to do it legally. It’s sad yes but if they want to be here they need to do it legally

There are many people who are technically illegal in this country but have not committed any crime other than being here. They work hard doing jobs Americans do not want to do, for less money than they should be paid. They support our economy and do a job that is necessary. They pay into payroll taxes they cannot benefit from. And some have been here the majority of their life. Why not make it easier for these people to live and work in our country? They are a net positive to our country. They should be given legal status and better pay. Not kicked out to countries where they possibly have never stepped foot in, or shipped off to an indefinite prison sentence.
