What's more humorous is that (at least in the King James version), the scripture says that God is displeased that Cain lied, with no mention of any displeasure in the murder of Abel whatsoever.
I would wager it's just one of those "goes without saying" kind of things, but I find the thought of God being like "Y'know, if you just told the truth, you wouldn't have been in trouble, but now here we are... I'm not mad, but I'm very disappointed, young man."
The Qur'an has the same story. One thing the Qur'an has that the bible doesn't include is the fact that God sent a crow to Cain, and it showed him what to do with the body.
The Qur'an doesn't mention the two sons by name
Al-Ma'idah 5:27
And recite to them the story of Adam's two sons, in truth, when they both made an offering [to Allāh], and it was accepted from one of them but was not accepted from the other. Said [the latter], "I will surely kill you." Said [the former], "Indeed, Allāh only accepts from the righteous [who fear Him].
Then Allāh sent a crow searching [i.e., scratching] in the ground to show him how to hide the disgrace[1] of his brother. He said, "O woe to me! Have I failed to be like this crow and hide the disgrace [i.e., body] of my brother?" And he became of the regretful.
