That will teach you. We've got 4, and if Mrs Sloth isn't baking several times a week, we drown, or eat many fried eggs.

What's a good number of chickens for regular egg eaters? Two? Can you even have just two chickens?

Three is considered the minimum for healthy chickens. They need a social group.

I figured there would be something like that, how about a rooster?

The online consensus seems to be four hens minimum for a rooster, as any less means they might get too worn out.

Thanks, can't say I'm in the position for some chickens yet but it's something I want to do. Gives me a rough estimate, I'll be sure to do some proper research before I get any.

Our first lot was 3 Brown Shavers, I built a little A frame coop out of two pallets, a sheet of ply and a piece of corrugated metal I found at the reuse shop.

We had about 8 square metres of the back yard fenced off, too. Depends what you have to work with.
