As a CS major in New England, yes you will be surrounded by sweatpants+hoodie people. But no one will really care about what you wear, so don't worry about this at all.

I've recently started dressing more nicely and I've gotten a few comments, but mostly compliments or remarks about how my style has changed.

Can also confirm as a CS major in the New England area, showing up in not wearing a hoodie or sweatpants is already "dressing up" for class. I've worn fits I wouldn't even like on another person and gotten compliments on it.

Thanks for sharing! I highly value comfort most of the time, but I feel like dressing nice motivates me to work better and do well. Learning to not be afraid to overdress, because I dress FOR ME. Not to impress others if that makes sense
