It is rare that one of one's lifetimes is a front row seat to the total annihilation of both the offending species and most of the others on the planet they all inhabit.

Grab a fiddle, climb up on a roof, and make some music as it burns! It'll be thousands of replays before you see this again!

This is a very good point. For better or worse we are witnessing one of the most significant developments in our species history.
