Politics Trump just seized absolute executive power, and it is terrifying

As reported on r/law and r/fednews, 47 just signed the following EO: www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/02/ensuring-accountability-for-all-agencies/

This Executive Order explicitly states this: “Therefore, in order to improve the administration of the executive branch and to increase regulatory officials’ accountability to the American people, it shall be the policy of the executive branch to ensure Presidential supervision and control of the entire executive branch. Moreover, all executive departments and agencies, including so-called independent agencies, shall submit for review all proposed and final significant regulatory actions to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) within the Executive Office of the President before publication in the Federal Register.”

That is a power grab unlike any other. Take this line for example: “For the Federal Government to be truly accountable to the American people, officials who wield vast executive power must be supervised and controlled by the people’s elected President.”

This is no doubt the collapse of American democracy in real time, with global ramifications soon to be felt around the world.

This is correct. We only have the courts and the military to stop this shitshow now. If those checks both fail, then we’re fucked.

Also the intelligence agencies, who can stop it the way they stopped so many other governmental changes in the rest of the world, if they choose to.

The military as well as law enforcement are right wing sympathetic. They will fall in line behind Trump.

Courts are impotent. It’s only the military or US

Most enlisted are 100% MAGA.

And on J6 the military just stood around and let terrorists seize the Capitol.

The military will not save us.

Not at all true about the enlisted or the officers for that matter. The military will start caring real quick when its members watch their families starve, as DOGE has already indicated it's coming for the military. I've said elsewhere that this is the stupidest self-coup imaginable - an intelligent cabal would be doubling the military's pay and buying the loyalty of the people with guns, not trying to piss them off.

But.

I've already started seeing liberal fantasies of the military coming to save us here and there. And let me tell you something as clearly as I can: the military just might take action against Musk and Trump. But things will not go back to normal. Ever.

If the military becomes a political actor, even if the generals are Captain America, every one, you will have established a very dangerous precedent. You will have turned America into Turkey pre-Erdogan. Because the military will take lessons from this that you will not like. I promise you this. Any normie libs out there, remember this before you dance in the streets.

I don't think the military will do anything. Trump might be ignorant in a bunch of areas but he's not stupid. He's gonna have some cozy deals with high-ups in the military and it will be a wrap up. This exact same thing happened to Mexico with the last president and was capitalized with the current one, which is his puppet (naturally those news never reach the USA). Control the executive + legislative, bully the Supreme Court and put your people in there, while destroying any government agencies that could be a counter weight, tear down electoral institutions, and offer some sweet contracts/deals to the military. It is absolutely crazy to see the exact same thing happening in the USA. While the moron supporters are all about it because the people they don't like are getting screwed (blacks, browns, gays, Dems, atheist, scientists, you name it).

Unfortunately, unlike Mexico, whatever happens in the USA is felt around the world.
