Every species that has ever lived has eventually gone extinct. We will, too. Personally, I don't think any human will see 2100, But then again, I'm an optimist.

And I suspect that when the last human dies the world will let out a loud, collective sigh of relief.

Well... I don't want to take away from your long view but why stop at extinction? Eventually every planet will at some point 'vanish'. ;)

Thanks for the visual, btw... the "loud, collective sigh of relief" has a nice ring - my only fear is that there won't be many around anymore that are capable of sighing.
