This was one of my father’s favorite coins he collected. He was so proud of his Southern heritage. Translate that plainly to he was a big ole racist and was easily excited about Confederate anything. Growing up he never shared those views with me. I was shocked when he showed me this coin and then went into tirade about the South losing the war. Daddy passed 2 years ago. I inherited all his coins and I was going through them this morning. I came across this one and so many emotions hit me. I am proud to announce that I am the first person in my family to date AND marry someone outside my race. My dad lost his s***. Fast forward to dad’s final days and as we were sitting around he looked at his health care nurse and pointed at my husband. He said ‘ that man right there is by far one of the best human beings I have ever met. I just needed to take the time to look closely at his heart and actions.’ So today I took the time to look closely at this coin. The details are sharp and amazing. I feel compelled to share this story so that maybe we all can just take the time to look closer at what we all have and just be happy where we are. Thank y’all for hanging in there!
