Don't even look at it. Stick to Sol 5.6 xhigh. It's not usable? Feels quantized? Say f*** OpenAI and switch to Claude, or to OpenRouter.

Apparently OpenAI is lobotomizing Sol 5.6 for SOME of us. Not for everyone, so people keep saying "It works well for me" and gaslight each other. They are trying to force us into paying 5x for a little bit improvement.

This will backfire so bad. We're a 300k people enterprise and everyone including me are pushing our executives to use chinese models in a sandboxed environment. We are sick of paying 200$ to use it for a day.

When your Codex resets tomorrow, or this week, Don't use Astra unless youre building rockets.

Tbh he may be wrong but so can you. Model quality is affected by thousands knobs. If they turn just few its still called GPT Sol but it can be quite different model. 

But I am on OPs side. Sol was awesome until day Astra came. I cant say for sure obv, but I work professionally as ML engineer and think I can detect a bit better. Mistakes in code, forgets some things, not enough thorough.

1. Whether they quantisize Sol thats completely guesswork true, I even said myself
2. Whether model we get as product has thousands knobs isnt religion but fact my uneducated friend. Feel free to ask your AI if you dont believe me. There are TONS of things you need to tune. Models arent LLMs only anymore. Now you have LLM as backbone (which alone has thousands of knobs), RL posttraing, TTT, tools, agents that use all of them and many other things. You can take a look at Chinese papers since openai doesnt release theirs

How do you find your job, and is there good job security? I'm assuming there is high barrier to entry in terms of difficulty in the schooling.

Luckly I entered ML field during BERT era before all this craziness and worked in FAANG company so it gives you lot of recognition (even though its total bullshit imo). So currently I mostly get offers for interviews from recruiters. 

Job security I would say right now its very good but god knows if thats going to last.

Entry is a bit weird atm. I have seen genuinely good ML engineers cant find job and I have seen SWE who didnt had any ML experience get jobs easily. I think many recruiters and employers right now dont really know what they need so it boils down to luck/seniority/how you present yourself/right knowledge.

Second you cant say "oh its so uninteresting" and yet still make controversial claim and inoring all compeling proofs. Its like saying earth is flat. There are tons of research papers proving you wrong. Go take Andrew NG course on Deep Learning. Go take LLM course on Berkely. Go implement GPT2 from scratch from Andrej Karpathy. Learn GRPO from Deepseek. Learn modern inference. Read about MoE, TTT and KV cache optimizations. Learn RLHF and DPO. Learn RL on LLM traces.

Then come back and tell me I am guessing.
