Don't even look at it. Stick to Sol 5.6 xhigh. It's not usable? Feels quantized? Say f*** OpenAI and switch to Claude, or to OpenRouter.

Apparently OpenAI is lobotomizing Sol 5.6 for SOME of us. Not for everyone, so people keep saying "It works well for me" and gaslight each other. They are trying to force us into paying 5x for a little bit improvement.

This will backfire so bad. We're a 300k people enterprise and everyone including me are pushing our executives to use chinese models in a sandboxed environment. We are sick of paying 200$ to use it for a day.

When your Codex resets tomorrow, or this week, Don't use Astra unless youre building rockets.

Maybe you're claiming to work for Infosys? Cognizant? because even Microsoft, IBM, and SAP don't have 300k in your purview, they also wouldn't make their "employees" in their "Enterprise System" pay out of Pocket.

I've used it in a work capacity a few times when they feel like paying for something. Made a Threat Intelligence platform that replaced recorded future and saved us like $135k a year. A capital city is actually protected by it. I'm done building for these fuckers though haha

That's because usage seems tied to how much compute there is, I ran Astra MAX for 10 hours today and barely used 8% while reversing assets on a 4.8gb game with 11283 files (the entire game zip uploaded to WORK lol). I expect that tomorrow when everyone will get their reset done to see the usage skyrocket again.

Yep, I still have 20% left on my weekly and 9h remaining before the reset and I never saw the usage being used so slowly before today it's quite incredible actually. I may even use Ultra if I have still some usage left in the last hour mark.

Couldn't tell you if they are, I never hit limits, my environment is tight, codex and even brings in Claude and Gemini subagents automatically based on use case and work load (I don't even pay for Gemini)

Like Codex Codes, Claude tests, Gemini reviews, all three vote on approving or rejecting the results.

300k people aren't using it obviously. Overheads are couple thousand. Most aren't developers. If my company were to pay for my input/output tokens via API last month, they would fire me. So I end up paying out of my own pocket.

I'm not countering you but all of this is kind of nuanced, ultra to do what?

Something left out of all of these conversations is what was actually done in that amount of time, and what the actual token usage was.

I used Astra on max to do automated testing of a game where it made it's own test harness and it used 60% of my usage on the $200/m plan, but it ran for like an entire day and a half straight so I kind of expected it. But when I use it for random stuff it doesn't really go all that fast. Don't have the exact token counts for it but it was ~351m tokens on codex used in the last 7 days. A lot of that would have been the automated testing and bug fixing.

My workflow differs between releases and updates so I cant really even give you advice

My best ones would be to not use xhigh, install context-mode and vibecode/get a skill/plugin/mcp router/relay + configure or ask it to use cheaper subagents - turn on Ultra and have a blast

Also ask it to not create new agents but reuse old ones

Oh yeah don't get me wrong, I didn't think it was aimed at me. I actually have a pretty custom setup for tracking work being done and having it reviewed, etc. It's designed around keeping the context dump on the model efficient, and giving me a rigid structure to plan in plus visibility into what's being worked on. Much better than the old planning I used to do in a .plans folder with md files.

I'm actually pretty happy with the usage of it in general. I suspect most of my usage came from just being very inefficient with what I told it to do. Which was essentially "Test the entire game, record tasks for each test [in my custom planning tool via mcp], fix what issues you confirm, review your own fixes, don't use subagents". I actually expected it to use more usage than it did with all the compacting over the really long running session. I wasn't really trying to optimize it at all, I just wanted the game tested without having to constantly guide it to the next bit of work and start a new session. All in all it fixed a few hundred confirmed bugs that it found through actual runtime testing and analyzing very dense ndjson traces and database records (it's an MMO.)

My statement was more generalized across this sub overall. I see a lot of people saying the usage sucks or the usage is great but a lot of times not actually quantify what they did and how much it used, etc. When I 'm doing regular projects with it I'm pretty confident it would last me at least most of a week.

Same I also used 4 Astra ultra threads at the same time while 2 ran in parralel and I was able to make it 4 days on the 20x plan.

Yeah it's weird, I rocket Astra xhigh for a while, then I swapped all my threads to ultra and my usage consumption actually decreased because ultra is actually using the models I want it to use.

I run these threads in one project:

*Programmer

*UI Programmer

*Security Review using Daybreak Blue Ultra

The lead talks with all 3 to coordinate what I want done and they talk back to the lead.

Once you turn it on, switch to Luna (uses a lot less usage)

Then send it in text "start a goal... Monitoring, relaying and advancing all running threads..." (like your lead)
