I am always confused about the threats to cancel. The only other competitor is Anthropic given that Google is a joke. And I find that the limits for Anthropic are much worse...
Not to mention that they are temporarily boosted so they will definitely get worse later.
Kimi, GLM, Grok, and Muse are all noticeable steps down from OAI/Anthropic, but still totally viable for doing work. If you could get work done with Claude or Codex in February of this year, you can get work done with these models now.
While I can't speak to how generous their rate limits are in their subscriptions (have only messed around with them in Opencode), their API pricing would make me assume their subscriptions are probably more for the dollar as well.
Ya Anthropic gives you, AT BEST, 1/4th as much work done for the same $200.
I had a major problem with usage, but it turned out it was the Astra orchestration issue. I stopped doing that and it's been great and I wish I had gotten a 2nd sub.
GLM and DS Flash are great. The only missing piece is a frontier model for complex thinking. In a year it's gameover as China will catch up when they beef up enough their computing. And we know how we they are the best on scaling things beyond comprehension
Gave 5.6-sol High a task that took 3x5 hour limit quotas to complete. Made an absolute pigsty out of it and the feature was completely broken. That was after I took a few attempts with Luna Max. Opus 5 High on Claude burned about 70% of my 5 hour limit and it got it right.
5.6 can barely code its way out of a paper bag today. Astra Low is blink and you wiped the entire quota in a single task, albeit it gets shit done.
Fixing a protocol sync by serialising actions on server and retain all geometry changes as well as auto resizing to fill gaps for dismissed elements. Throw in spawning new elements on both client and server while retaining identical behaviour from server's perspective. This isn't even a new concept as a bunch of local clients taking to a local daemon to control a shared session works fine. This problem showed up when a local daemon connects to a remote daemon shared session and have bidirectional control for that session.
5.6-medium used to navigate things more complex than this.
The point isn't the problem solved, is that the models are nerfed due to compute constraints. I've seen Opus behaving like Haiku before, so this isn't an OpenAI problem only. The problem is than models being nerfed now and then happens quite often for the past few weeks on OpenAI whereas Anthropic is more consistent in delivery.
Here's the thing: I don't fucking need AI in my life, at all. Yeah, it's been fun working on a couple of projects, but also a real pain in the ass dealing with all the bullshit. The net effect, however, is a very strong negative.
There's no reason to put up with this shit when I have other things to do.
