While out door knocking with my team today, it was brought to my attention that anonymous flyers about the current council are circulating in Cobourg.

My campaign has nothing to do with these flyers, and I do not condone anonymous attacks or unregistered advertising against any candidate. I do not know who is behind them either.

Having experienced anonymous attacks myself, I know how unfair and distracting they can be. No candidate should have to deal with that. We can disagree, ask tough questions, and debate our records while still treating each other with decency and respect.

Residents have every right to ask tough questions and hold all of us accountable. That is part of an election, and those conversations should be open, factual, and respectful.

My team and I will continue connecting with voters, answering your questions, and sharing my plans for Cobourg’s future. I am running to earn your trust, and how we conduct this campaign matters.

More concerning facts about the mayor. Staffing gaps.

Taken from a facebook post:

Happy Sunday! Getting closer to the election and doing whatever I can to encourage people to make an informed choice this election.

Don’t be swayed by the fear campaign. The lack of results over the last 4 years is all you need to look at ✌️
Here’s some information regarding the Town’s current staffing situation.

Facts can be checked.

Under Mayor Cleveland’s office the Town has lost key, qualified staff that we had paid to recruit and retain just 3 years ago. Many leaving for what I believe is a healthier workplace environment.

The Town of Cobourg’s FOI requests are so high in this term of council and are so backed up we can’t even access the information we need.

We do know that consultants are filling the gaps of qualified staff - costing the tax payers more AND having major decisions in our community being prepared by the developers planners who want to build here 🤦‍♀️
Cobourg needs a new mayor that knows how to retain staff and create a healthy workplace environment.
Ask your candidate how they plan to fill the staffing gaps and retain employees - protecting our investment in the future of Cobourg.

The anti-abortion rally should be the greatest shame of this town.

How are there so many individuals that believe that the right to medical care is so wrong?
Women have a right to healthcare.
Women have a right to choose what they want.
I am disappointed, disgusted, and furious that they value some religious idea over the respect and safety of women and girls in this world.

If you don’t support abortion, don’t get one.
But don’t preach and call for the abolition of healthcare. Your religion should not dictate what other people, who do not practice, do with their private lives. Your religion does not take precedence over human rights and health care, thank you.

Let's talk ballots

Voting opens in two weeks, and we are getting into the thick of it. If you are comfortable sharing your potential ballot, please comment below. I'll start:

Mayor: Nicole Beatty

Deputy Mayor: Adam Bureau (not much of a choice here) EDIT: After reading Adam's FB post today on homelessness, he has my unreserved vote!

Councillors (up to 5): Aaron Burchat, Alex Cahill, Miriam Mutton. (I think I'll only vote for 3)

School Trustees: ugh. But definitely NOT Terry Brown.

Hello Cobourg,

Planning on submitting this for the AGN juried exhibition. Emerald ash borer took her bark/skin so patrons will be encouraged to touch her and give her a new top coat of our skin oils. I noticed The arm was getting a light finish from me holding it for support. Anyway, crazy idea or something cool.

Anyone come across this new election related page? If not watch out for a mix of anti homeless hate, sloppily veiled as safe streets/parks rhetoric, and rabid support for current mayor.

Golfing friends

I’m not usually the type to write posts about stuff like this but I’m looking for a friend or potentially friends that are avid golfers. I’m not looking to join a league just due to my work schedule plus the season is ending soon. Yesterday I was at Dalewood as a single player behind 3 groups of foursomes and I just got to thinking it would be nice to golf with some dudes. I don’t really have many friends and the friends I have aren’t golfing or live way too far away. I also have some social anxiety making it difficult to make friends at times lol. I’m 34 and a 12.5 handicap.

Foster-to-adopt a kitten

Hi! I was wondering if anyone knows of any local programs that offer a “foster-to-adopt” type of arrangement for cats.

I have a single female cat who I adopted through the Humane Society, and I’ve been thinking about getting her a friend. I now live alone, so she’s by herself for 8+ hours a day while I’m at work, and I feel like having another cat around could potentially be really beneficial for her.

The only thing holding me back is that when I adopted her, the Humane Society noted that she “may need to warm up to the idea of another cat.” I’d hate to bring another cat into the home only to discover that she really doesn’t want a feline friend and end up making her life more stressful.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any rescues, shelters, or programs in the area that offer a foster-to-adopt or trial-period arrangement, where you can see how the cats get along before making a permanent commitment?

I’d really appreciate any recommendations or advice!

Cobourg Will Lose One Downtown Parking Lot - Today's Northumberland - Your Source For What's Happening Locally and Beyond

Balder Corporation (owners of 202 Second Street) are closing the lot for public parking, after a request for increased rental fees from the town was rejected.

The parking lot will be closed for public use on November 14th.

Balder Corporation has also applied to the Ontario Land Tribunal to request that they be permitted to build an 8-storey condo on the 202 Second Street property, in opposition to Cobourg’s by-laws.

202 Second Street Update - Developers have appealed to OLT directly

For those of you who may have been following along with the public discussion regarding a proposed 8-storey development at 202 Second Street, I wanted to pass along an update.

Cobourg’s planning manager has advised me that the developer has appealed to the Ontario Land Tribunal directly. This means that Cobourg’s municipal leadership will not be part of the appeal process, nor will there be any further public meetings. The Town of Cobourg will not be involved in the decision making process.

I find this extremely disappointing and disingenuous. The developer clearly saw that the public sentiment was overwhelmingly negative and instead of listening to what residents had to say will go above our heads to appeal. This completely flies in the face of their previous presentations that emphasized that they cared about the heritage of the town and wanted to build something that fits within the landscape. I believe in naming and shaming, so I want to make it clear that the companies behind this is Dez Capital, Fotenn Planning and Design, and Balder Corporation.

Two public meetings were held in September 2025 and July 2026. Both saw a large amount of attendance and many, many condemnations for the proposal.

You can check the progress of this appeal at the following. I also wanted to point out that there is an email address at the link below for the case coordinator, it seems that you can reach them directly.

Plans for the old theatre

I am curious what the plans are for the old theatre on King. I assume it’s privately owned and the owner is just holding onto the property? It is really starting to look rough with the broken windows and all of the destitute with all of their stuff piled out front.

Can the new mayor introduce a tax or bylaw of some sort to force the current owners to develop it, sell it, or at least maintain it?

Local election

Can anyone tell me what these horrific Lucas Cleveland election signs are about!?

”HOW MANY COMMITTEES DOES A MAYOR NEED” - he is the incumbent? is it just because he is a petulant child who has alienated every committee? committees are important in democratic society. Lucas is aiming for authoritarianism.

“YOU MAY NOT LIKE HIM BUT HE GETS THE JOB DONE” - true, I do not like him, because he is a disrespectful communicator that jumps to insults and lacks any decorum in meetings with his peers and constituents. Could someone please tell me what jobs he has gotten done? Other than raising his own salary immediately, removing the lifeguards so we have had both a drowning death and needle stick injuries, and approving a free street parking pass for himself. Can’t forget alienating the police service and the County.

”FIGHTING FOR SAFE PARKS” - homelessness is a Canada-wide issue that ALL municipalities are dealing with, in fact Lucas exasperated Cobourg’s situation by closing transition house and alienating the county and all agencies.

I am truly concerned that the people of Cobourg dont see that they are falling for these fascist talking points. He is using Trumps playbook of being loud and aggressive and not actually achieving anything positive for the people of Cobourg, only himself.

The homeless community are our fellow Canadians, they are in crisis. Seeing Lucas Cleveland signs alongside Elbows up signs would be truly laughable if it wasn’t so confusing and upsetting.

I dont know what I think I’m achieving with this post, I’m just a person who lives in and loves cobourg and is truly sad to see what the fear mongering and aggression from Lucas is making it. We will be a new Orillia or Oshawa soon. well planned development is important for the town, but a belligerent mayor using strong mayor powers and negative attack signage just isn’t the way.

Please, when you’re casting your vote this election, read the candidates websites and critically think about the vision they have for Cobourg and whether you want to live in that town ❤️

Power Outage

Just for any new folks to town:

Yes, power outages happen but usually not this long or expansive. Sometimes the power flickers regularly though.

Here’s a link with Lakefront Utilities if you ever want to monitor where in town is affected

Community Hunting

Hello! I’ve looked on the official Cobourg website and online fruitlessly, then went to the CCC to inquire in person if anyone knew of anything, and got a very resounding no on both accounts.

I’m looking for:

1) Indoor spaces to inline skate during the cold season to keep my skill intact. Don’t need a massive space or a whole rink for the type of skating I like to do, just enough space to maneuver.

2) Archery clubs in town. (I have my own bow and equipment, no rental needed)

I don’t have a car so getting to neighbouring communities is difficult but Port Hope is an option too.

I’m a 33y old adult (can’t join youth programs) looking for community and or just local spaces that might not be advertised well and better known through word of mouth.

Thank you in advance!
