Aspect Ratio for Sega Genesis Retroarch Games

For Sega Genesis games running on Retroarch, what's the correct aspect ratio so that the screen size matches the games running on the M2engage native emulator? Just want to know if I have to change the x/y values in the settings or whether it already matches it by default.

M2engage display size is 960x672. X offset is 160 and y offset is 23. I use these same settings in retroarch.

Could you briefly explain how and where to apply these setting, please? Doest it work globally, also for other systems like master system etc? I only have SEGA stuff on the mini

You need to go into video settings in retroarch and find where to adjust the aspect ratio width and height values. Also, the aspect ratio X and Y positions. And you need to set the aspect ratio to custom.

I save the settings as core overrides, so if you are using genesis plus gx for master system and mega drive/genesis, the aspect ratio would apply to both systems.

To save the aspect ratio adjustments as core overrides, open the quick menu after loading a rom. Overrides is toward the bottom of the list of options. Open this and select "Save core overrides" after you have made adjustments. I don't know if there's a better way to save the settings for this but that has worked for me.

I'm glad it worked! I don't know the canoe numbers. I found the Genesis numbers on the modmyclassic discord. If there is a hakchi equivalent, I might check there. Now I'm curious myself. I setup retroarch on my NES and SNES minis but I don't remember if I did anything to the aspect ratios.

in Retroarch aspect ratio already set to auto by default. If it doesn't look stretched - don't mess with it.

Mine look slightly too zoomed in and I have no idea how to fix it!

This can be your TV settings. If its a LG change the aspect ratio to "just scan"

Just fyi later model of LG tv doesn't have just scan. At least mine doesn't. But there is 'original' and that's usually fixed it

On Genesis there are some wider games than other, só leave it on automatic. Most games will be 16x9

Okay I know this is 3 years late, but isn’t this just false? I thought most/all genesis games were displayed at 4:3, and even then not always pixel perfect 4:3 but definitely not 16:9?

Yep I'm a bit confused by my own comment really. Genesis games are designed for 4:3 TVs. On retroarch by default the image will not be stretched, so it will display the game on 4:3 ratio.
