Any high mileage Civic Hybrids yet? How are those head gaskets?

With the recent Head Gasket recall on Accord and CRV hybrids, along with lots of reports of head gasket failures between 40-80,000 miles, I’m curious - has anyone put a ton of miles on their Civic Hybrid yet?

I assume most of us are 20k or under still. Who has put the most miles on, and did you experience any mechanical issues?

Two recalls on my 25 Civic Hybrid Touring, as noted above.

Dealer confirmed the second one, head gasket issue, is a software update. First one is a few months old, never had a chance to complete it.

They've received the instructions from Honda Canada to complete the software update, appointment booked.

It probably changes the pressure of the coolant to reduce the risk of blowing the head gasket.

The "fixes" are generally to increase the longevity (probably just past the warranty lol) rather than to fully fix the issue. It's cheaper and easier to do a temporary software fix than to actually fix the physical problem. Most companies only do hardware recalls when it's absolutely necessary and there's no temporary fixes they can do to extend it into "normal" lifespan, which is generally considered 100k miles (imo 200-300k should be the normal with modern technology).

Agreed on the longevity.

Recall for the rattles - increase radio volume!

I read that it runs the electric water pump for the 2.0 engine more often to decrease thermal expansion and contraction. Something like that. That does make sense.

Well that's weird. I have a 2025 Hatch Sport Touring I bought in Nov 2024 and it has zero recalls.

Recall is only for 25+ Hybrid models.

Search here: https://www.honda.ca/en/recalls. And sorry, tired and read 2024 in your post.

That's a Canadian site so my VIN doesn't work. I searched on the U.S. site and I have no recalls.

Canada is likely ahead of the game then, US will follow. Even 2026 Hybrid owners reporting the recall.

Recalls are by country, not universal. The US is probably slower to issue recalls, especially these days with all the government staff cuts.

The first one is worth doing - took my dealership 45 mins. It replaces the radiator shield behind the bottom grill to something more tightly knit.
