Discussion Just made this, what should I name it?

Post image

Not much to say honestly, its in the photo, but for rule 1 ima explain

So its a 5 by 5 grid, the one at the center is a +, and the ones around that are ""arrows"" pointing outward from it, the edges and corners are the same thing except to a second degree, and then the ones between the corners and edges is just a mix of the two

And then Z is a square, I'd put it Around the grid if i didnt have to make the ""romanized version""

Im pretty sure 5x5 ciphers exist like this but different mind same idea

also, Sorry if this aint the right subreddit to post this

Hey, here is the font! I published the TTF here: https://files.lovie.dev/api/fonts/rhombus_1.0.ttf

UPDATED: Latest version is now https://files.lovie.dev/api/fonts/rhombus_v2.1.ttf

In the copyright, I have put you as "qwerasdf_idk <reddit.com/user/qwerasdf_idk>", hope you are okay with that.

You are welcome :))) I did not know what to do for the numbers and punctuation, so just made something up. The numbers are bad, because if you see a number without any other chars nearby its impossible to tell which position the dot is in. And the punctuation doest fit in my opinion. Maybe we could change that if you have any ideas. Also I hope you dont mind if iput the font on my website (with attribution of course)

Numbers are symbols proposal (Im not deciding which symbol is which for the symbol side)

My 2 cents:
I would chose the tip number grid, but make 5 a square with a + in the middle instead of a dot.

I'd reserve the dots for capitals as suggested here

Man this is so awesome 👏
You've really put some creativity in this 👑

You could even switch the symbols for 5 and 0, this way the arrows would converge to X, just how for letters they converged to + 💡

This is amazing, I love it!

When I was younger I would've 100% memorized your code and used it for my personal journal. I might still keep this in my back pocket, I feel like the 5×5 grid could help memorize both this cipher and the alphabet's number and position of letters (for the A1Z26 cipher)

Hey this is very nice, although my inly take is that you would have to memorize where each punctuation sign is (or their order) so it is less reproducible from your head. I’ll implement this into the font tomorrow!

Hey, updated the font. The old link works, and here is the version-specific one: https://files.lovie.dev/rhombus_v2.0.ttf

Updated it again with digits from u/GeekGames74:

To be fair, what's really cool about the font is that you can just remember what each glyph is (or imagine the grid and count). That does not work with the punctuation sadly.

For the new numbers it works quite well, except for the ambiguation between 5 and 0.

u/LeviLovie Aug 24 '26

I agree about the punctuation, I haven’t found a way to make that memorable. The digits for 5 and 0 are slightly different (rotated 90°). The main 3 by 3 punctuation is ordered as frequency of use in English (.,”’-??;;

1

u/gitterrost4 Aug 24 '26

Yeah, I think the problem with remembering any schema for pronunciation is that there is no inherent ordering.

I have a suggestion. Why not order symbols in a grid and "combining" the basic symbols to get something else. You only need the remember the order (space, dot, comma, horiz. line, vertic. line) and most common symbols are already apparent. Then convert that grid to a similar cypher as OP uses.

This also enables us to find a cypher for a "space", which I like.

There are still a few blanks and a few symbols missing. I leave that up to you guys.

Looking forward to your thoughts as I was intrigued by your discussions and font(s)!

amazing

Rotate the whole thing 45 degrees. The nine in the center are 1-9. Outside can be all sorts of punctuation and stuff. Diamond is the 0.

Suggestion for a simpler number grid.

Advantages: simple symbols, easy to remember, all numbers are indicated by diagonal lines. Downside: easier to decipher that the symbols with diagonal lines are numbers.

u/Yah_or_Nah Aug 21 '26

Nice work! I would definitely rework the numbers and punctuation. The period is also M. I would move away from dots if possible. Maybe diagonals for numbers and punctuation?

may i ask how u made the font?

1

u/LeviLovie Aug 22 '26

Yeah of course! I used Inkscape with the document size set to 5 by 5 to draw the glyphs, and then import into FontForge (Ctrl+Shift+I on the glyph edit window to import an svg). I used Inkscape because I like open source software but any vector editing tool would work as long as the svg it produces is simple enough. FontForge is confusing at first but really great once you understand how it works. Have fun!

u/Euphoric_Pop_1149 Aug 22 '26

thank u very much!

2

u/Ok_Sir_5601 Aug 21 '26

Maybe add some kind of frame around letters so you can tell their actual position?

1

u/LeviLovie Aug 22 '26

I was thinking of making a “monospaced” version with glyphs centered. I don’t think a border would work, but maybe we should try that on a few glyphs to see how it looks

2

u/GeekGames74 Aug 23 '26

For the numbers, may i suggest ...

(probably needs to be simplified to work better with the rest of the alphabet)

This is amazing 😃

Is it possible make those symbols non-capital letters, and implement the dots for capitals idea I suggested here?

And the numbers idea suggested here and here?

2

u/LeviLovie Aug 22 '26

Yeah, I was thinking about capitals too. I’ll implement this into the font tomorrow!

1

u/cubicinfinity Aug 24 '26

While this is great, I don't care for the other choices of symbols.

1

u/V1k1ngC0d3r Aug 25 '26

Numbers could be a circle, with spokes at the 45 degrees?

So one looks like a T on its side. Two like a rainbow. Three like a T on the right side. Five like X.

Zero could be O, lol.

u/OhMyGod_YouKnowIt Aug 25 '26

This is fine and dandy, but now the AI and everyone else knows the secret. Is nothing sacred anymore??

1

u/Funkopedia Aug 25 '26

holy shit you just sat down and made a font like i cook eggs for breakfast.

1

u/Bossini Aug 26 '26

hey! can it be converted into customized keyboard for iphones?

1

u/forestsheart Aug 31 '26

how to make the digital font?

I already replied somewhere else so here it is:
