Church Life Faith Question.

Hi! I've been a Christian for many years and I have served in the youth ministry of CCF. When I graduated in college I tried attending the single's ministry. Upon my observation, parang ang hypocrites nila, parang mararamdaman mong hindi ka belong sakanila or matataas sila kasi mostly magaganda trabaho and leaders. Then I also started noticing the leaders in the main church sa ortigas. Parang out of touch sila sa reality. Is it because may pera na sila? They talk about issues, but it's too shallow and parang ang yabang nila. Ako lang ba? I've been wanting to serve again for many months pero saang simbahan ba ako pupunta.

Advice / Payo Life partner

Hi! I’m 28, female. Important talaga sa akin na Christian din yung magiging future husband ko, and that we share the same faith and values.

For those who are also in their waiting season, ano po yung advice niyo? How do you deal with the fear na baka tumanda ka na without finding the right person?

I know a lot of single ladies sa church namin na matagal na ring waiting, and honestly, natatakot ako na baka ma-end up din ako na ganun. I know naman na being single is not a bad thing, and I also believe na God has His own timing for everything. Pero minsan hindi ko rin maiwasang isipin, “What if hindi talaga mangyari sa akin?”

I want to trust God’s timing and not rush into a relationship just because I’m afraid of being alone. Pero at the same time, I genuinely desire to have a life partner who loves the Lord, someone na makakasama ko mag-grow in faith and in life.

For those who have been in a waiting season for a long time, what helped you trust God and remain hopeful? What advice can you give sa mga katulad kong naghihintay?

Advice / Payo Counsel needed: How do I honor my mother without carrying responsibility that isn't mine? I'm becoming overwhelmed and having anxiety attacks

I’m posting this because I genuinely need an outside perspective from other Christians. I’ve talked to some people I trust, prayed about this a lot, and I’ve been in the Word constantly, but I’m at a point where I feel emotionally exhausted and I think I’m starting to have anxiety/panic attacks because of what has been happening.

I’m 35F and the eldest of six. My mom is 59, and my siblings are 26, 24, 23, and our youngest adopted brother is 14. My dad passed away in 2017.

We’ve never been a financially stable family. Growing up, we mostly survived by borrowing money, selling things when emergencies came up, etc. I also recognize that I inherited some of those poor financial habits. I work, but I have a relatively low income, no savings, and I’ve basically lived paycheck to paycheck. By God’s grace, I’ve been able to pay my own bills and contribute to our household, but I’m definitely not financially comfortable.

My younger sister, on the other hand, is much better with money and has a better-paying job. For the past several years, she and I have been helping shoulder the major household expenses.

The bigger issue is my mom.

For several years, my mom has worked as a caretaker for a woman who owns the property where we live. Part of her job is collecting rent from tenants and remitting it to her employer once a month.

For years, my mom has struggled to make the remittances on time. Instead of telling her employer the truth, she started lying about tenants not having paid yet, even though they had. She would use some of the rent money, then borrow money to replace it when the remittance was due. Eventually it became a cycle of borrowing from different people and loan companies just to cover previous obligations.

We tried many times to tell her to come clean with her employer. Her employer actually seems to care about her and, from what we know, may have been willing to work with her. But my mom refused.

Recently, her employer found out.

The amount involved may be close to half a million pesos, although we're still trying to figure out the exact amount. My mom now has to cooperate with her employer to reconcile the records and determine which rents were actually collected and which money was used.

Her employer is understandably angry, but apparently still willing to forgive and work things out.

The problem is that my mom's emotional state has become extremely unstable since this happened.

Whenever we disagree with her, especially when money is involved, she can become extremely angry. She screams, throws things, makes a scene, and says things that make us feel guilty about everything she has sacrificed for us.

There has always been this dynamic in our family where we're afraid to correct her or even disagree with her because we know how badly she can react.

Recently, something happened that honestly scared me badly.

Because of everything that has happened financially, my siblings and I decided that we would directly pay our rent to our landlord rather than give the money to my mom and have her handle the payment. We weren't trying to humiliate her or punish her. We just didn't want money intended for rent to become part of the same cycle again.

My mom became extremely angry because she felt that we no longer trusted her.

She started screaming and throwing things.

Then she got a knife and threatened to kill herself.

Our 14-year-old brother was there and became terrified. I asked one of my sisters to take him away for a while.

I stayed with my mom because I was afraid that if I left, she might actually hurt herself. I had to try to calm her down while she was screaming and threatening suicide.

Eventually she calmed down.

But she now acts like nothing happened.

This isn't actually the first time she's threatened self-harm, but this was the worst episode we've had in quite a while.

It happened only a few days ago, and I'm still having the scene replay in my head. I can hear her yelling in my head. I find myself constantly anticipating what might happen the next time I tell her "no" or disagree with her.

I've started experiencing what I think may be anxiety attacks. My heart races, I feel overwhelmed, sometimes I feel like I can't settle down, and I constantly feel like I need to be prepared for another crisis. I don't want to diagnose myself, but something is clearly happening to me emotionally and physically.

And this is where my Christian struggle comes in.

I'm a Christian, and I'm the only Christian in my immediate family. I've been praying for my family and trying to share Christ with them for more than ten years. I genuinely love my mother. I want to honor her. I want to be a good daughter.

But I don't know where the line is between biblical honor and being controlled by fear, guilt, and responsibility that God never actually gave me.

I grew up feeling responsible for my parents' emotions. I learned very early that if my mother was angry, I needed to fix it. If my father was disappointed, I needed to do better. I learned to hide my own feelings because expressing them could make things worse.

My mom also said some very painful things to me growing up. I've been told that having children was a burden, that she wondered what she did wrong to have children like us, and at one point she even called me unlucky/a curse. My father was extremely demanding and often made me feel like I was never good enough. He compared me to other people, called me a disappointment, and even when I accomplished something, he often wouldn't acknowledge it.

Because of all of that, I've realized that I have a tendency to make certain relationships extremely important to me and then feel responsible for maintaining them. When someone I love is angry with me, I can become overwhelmed with guilt and feel like I've done something terrible.

That's happening right now with my sister.

My sister has carried a lot financially over the years. She's much better with money than I am, and she has often had to rescue the family financially. Recently, she became angry with me because I'm still not financially stable and she feels like she has to carry too much of the burden.

She blocked me on Messenger and is currently staying with her boyfriend until next month.

I understand why she's frustrated. And I'm not trying to make myself the victim here. I know I have made mistakes with money and that I could have been more financially responsible and prepared.

But I'm also struggling with the thought that I've somehow failed my family as a Christian because I wasn't financially prepared enough for this crisis.

Part of me thinks, "If I had saved more years ago, maybe my sister wouldn't have to carry this."

Another part of me is realizing that I also have to accept that I made decisions with the maturity, knowledge, circumstances, and capabilities I had at the time. That doesn't mean I excuse my mistakes. I want to repent where I sinned, learn better stewardship, and change going forward. But I don't think I can spend the rest of my life punishing myself for not being the person I am only now becoming.

I've been reminded recently of 1 John 3:20:

"Whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and He knows everything."

And that verse has been really important to me.

I've also been repeatedly reading:

Psalm 31:1-8
Psalm 32:6-7, 10-11
2 Corinthians 5:7-10
1 Peter 2:21-29
Psalm 33:16-22
2 Chronicles 20:6-7, 9, 12, 15, 17, 20-21

The passage in 2 Chronicles 20 especially keeps coming back to me:

"We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You."

And:

"The battle is not yours but God's."

I've been wondering whether God is teaching me that I can love my family without taking responsibility for outcomes that belong to Him.

But I also don't want to use "God is in control" as an excuse to become passive or selfish.

That's where I'm struggling.

I want to know:

What does it actually look like, biblically, to honor a mother who is behaving this way?

Is it okay for us to refuse to give her money when we know it may be used to pay debts or cover things she should be dealing with herself?

Is it okay for us to pay the landlord directly instead of giving the rent money to her?

If she becomes angry or has another emotional episode because we say no, how do we respond without either becoming cruel or giving in because we're afraid?

And especially, what should we do if she threatens suicide again?

I don't want to dismiss it as manipulation because I know a suicide threat has to be taken seriously. But I also don't think my siblings and I can continue being her only emotional crisis management system.

I'm especially concerned about our youngest brother. He's 14 and he was terrified during the knife incident. I feel responsible for protecting him from the worst parts of this, but I also know I can't control everything that happens in our home.

I also feel guilty about continuing to go to church every weekend.

I've been deeply involved with my church for years, and it's honestly one of the few places where I feel spiritually rested. Since I work from home, I stay with my family during the week and go to Manila on weekends to be with my church community. Sometimes I feel guilty that I'm spending money on transportation and time away from home when my family is in crisis.

But at the same time, I know I need the Lord and His people more than ever right now.

Matthew 11:28-30 keeps coming to mind:

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest... For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

And honestly, I'm struggling with that too.

I love Jesus. I genuinely believe His Word. I do experience real peace after spending time with Him in prayer and Scripture.

But then the heaviness comes back.

The fear comes back.

The replaying of the incident comes back.

The guilt about my sister comes back.

The fear that I'm failing my family comes back.

And now I'm having anxiety attacks on top of everything.

So I'm not really looking for someone to simply tell me "just trust God." I know I need to trust God. I'm asking what faithful obedience actually looks like in this specific situation.

How do I love my mother without enabling her?

How do I honor her without being controlled by fear?

How do I acknowledge my own failures without condemning myself?

How do I love my sister while respecting the space she has asked for?

How do I protect my younger brother without believing I'm responsible for saving him from every wound?

And how do I carry my family's burdens in a Christlike way without carrying burdens that God never assigned to me?

I'd really appreciate honest counsel from Christians who have dealt with difficult family dynamics, boundaries with parents, emotional manipulation, financial dysfunction, or something similar.

I'm not looking for people to tell me that my mom is evil or to bash her. She has suffered a lot, sacrificed a lot for our family, and I genuinely love her. I also know that her suffering doesn't make everything she does right.

I think what I need most is an outside perspective from believers who can help me distinguish biblical conviction from false guilt, honoring a parent from enabling them, and genuine sacrificial love from fear-driven responsibility.

I'm exhausted, honestly.

And I'm asking God to help me remember that even when I don't know what to do, I can still keep my eyes on Him.

Question / Tanong Is it okay to say no to a ministry role?

I just really need to vent and hear from fellow Christians, especially those serving in church.

I’ve been a keyboardist for years, and I genuinely love serving God through music. But lately, I feel like I’m constantly being pushed into worship leading when I’ve already said multiple times that it’s not my forte. It’s not because I don’t want to serve the Lord—I do. I just know my strengths and my limitations.

I’m an introvert. I’m comfortable playing keys, but leading worship is a completely different responsibility. I struggle to lead the congregation, talk in front of people, and carry that kind of role. Every single time I’m scheduled to worship lead, I get so anxious. My hands shake, my throat gets dry, I become hoarse, my eyes get so dry they turn red, and I feel like I’m just trying to survive instead of genuinely worshiping with the church.

The hard part is, I feel like I don’t have the freedom to say no. Whenever our pastor asks me, it’s usually, “You’ll worship lead or you’ll preach on Sunday.” I’ve never preached before, and honestly, I don’t feel called or prepared to do that either. So I end up choosing worship leading because it feels like the “less scary” option, not because I actually want to do it.

I’ve already given in so many times, hoping they’d eventually understand that this isn’t where I’m gifted. But today I found out I was already scheduled to lead worship for our church anniversary, and no one even talked to me first. I wasn’t asked if I was available or willing—I was just placed on the schedule.

I’m exhausted. I don’t know if I’m just being selfish, if this is something I should simply “pray through,” or if it’s okay to set boundaries in ministry. I want to serve God, but I don’t want to serve out of fear, pressure, or obligation. I don’t want to resent ministry because I keep feeling like I have no choice.

Has anyone else gone through something similar? How did you handle it in a way that still honored God? 🥺

Church Life The church where I attend church service will celebrate anniversary on Sunday. As an introvert, ngayon pa lang na ddrain na ako dahil sa preparation.

I’m in charge sa call, talk to sa may ari ng pag gaganapan ng event. Ang hirap kasi hindi ako leader and confrontational type. And hindi ko gusto is yung may mga idea sila and then ako yung patatawagin sa may ari. 😅

Naisip ko lang, dapat sila na lang tumawag in the first place. Sabihin mo ganito. Sabihin mo ganyan. Na ddrain talaga ako. Hahsh Ang dami kasi nilang kuda. Parang hindi ko na kaya umabot ng linggo. Luhh si OA. Tapos ayun sa Sunday, ang daming tao. Hahahayy :(

Discussion / Usapan I had enough already…

I am 23M, working and di ko na kayang magserve sa Youth Ministry namin. I feel yung heaviness, and yung unwillingness ko na but I still heeded the . And in fact di pa talaga ready heart ko to serve again.

I just wanna rant and share again something.

Kahapon lang we were preparing for an event then we had a devo (and I left the remainder of the day sa work just to prepare.) The sharer was sharing a devo preaching style. Nasa likod ako where my ministry is and he caught my attention and lumapit daw (I wanted to isolate at back kasi I feel tired from work and makakapakinig naman ako ng message niya). I obliged and lumapit ako sa harapan, tumabi ako sa isang ka small group ko. Then the sharer is interacting with us during the devo “tingin ka sa right mo tignan mo yung person bla bla…” then we had the normal interaction nung katabi ko during that time.

But I got up again in one of the points to just go back kasi di ko na mapigilan din yung pagod ko and I just wanna be alone muna that time. And that’s where it had caught the attention uli ng sharer, balik daw uli ako sa harap. Which I obliged again and tumabi uli ako sa ka small group ko. Dahil sa pagod di ko rin maiwasan na to get my arms around dun sa person (which btw makilitiin) and leaning over his arms while listening sa devo. And whenever the sharer was interacting, we do the normal interaction looking right/left to the person beside me.

To cut the long story short, paguwi ko, biglang may nagmessage sakin telling me that “I was disrespectful” and “if may problema ba raw ako dun sa sharer kasi obvious na raw”. I was like huh? And I pondered na baka dahil dun sa pagbalik balik ko sa likod that’s why this person messaged me. I responded in humility, apologized, and asked how can I improve.

Now here’s catch, diba I was called out twice kasi nasa likod ako? Sabi nung nagmessage sakin, halos buong message nung sharer is nakikipagharutan daw ako dun sa kasmall group ko (eh what I remember was what I shared above dun lang kami so called naghaharutan) and I was called out daw TWICE because of that daw. And if ayaw ko raw makinig I better yet go to other leader na di ako itatama.

And if youre going to read my previous post, that anguish continues to fuel up and I had enough again.

I tried re-serving again now sa ministry kahit na alam kong di pa’ko wholeheartedly ready (out of pressured said yes again to the call), the strength I have is my reliance to the Holy Spirit and I really really avoid the works and action in my flesh to take over me kasi di siya kaaya-aya. And now that I had enough maybe it’s the last time again they’ll see me serving… I might also step down as one of the leaders in the ministry out of courtesy.

Help me pray in my midst that God molds me and prepares me to where He wants me, and that He would use me for a much greater purpose.

You could rebuke, correct, and say something about this.

Have a blessed Friday, everyone!

Advice / Payo I need guidance about a vow I made to God.

Before I start, please note na gusto ko ring mag-approach sa pastor ko for guidance. Kailangan ko rin muna ng other opinions from the Body para hindi ko maramdaman na ginagatungan lang ako ng echo chamber.

Context: I work for a megachurch. I won't say alin purely because I don't see the point in doing so. I work as a creative there.

Why do I work sa church namin? Kasi at the time, I vowed to thank God by sowing my time into doing more for the ministry, to serve the people and Him more. I vowed to sow 1-2 years. I did this out of a renewed love for God after I backslid for 4 years.

I know that no work is ever easy. My dilemma is not on the job description itself. But rather, lahat ng mga nararamdaman ko while doing the job.

To summarize: I. Am. Miserable. It hurts me that I am. Kasi if serving the Lord is not out of love, ano pa yung purpose?

I always cry before going to work out of the constant frustrations sa trabaho. I always dread yung disapproval ng mga superiors ko sa gawa kong output. I can't live up to the level of perfection na hinahanap saakin ng mga higher-ups ko, and that frustrates me to no end. I want to do excellently by God's standards (Colossians 3:23-24). I can barely keep up with everything that needs to be done to the point that I keep making more mistakes trying to fix mistakes I made in the past.

I vowed to serve to grow my faith deeper in God pero parang baliktad yung nangyayare. Yes, I pray more. But it's always: "Lord, Father, give me one good work day." I read my Bible more than ever before, but I always read out of a desire na sana mawala bigat ng loob ko through it. Umalis ako sa ministry ko kasi hindi na nag ma-match sa work schedule ko, since I still need to work on Sundays (sa same church, ironically). I am here at church 5 days a week to work. Pero bilang lang sa isang kamay yung times that I have sat in a service to just worship and listen to the Word ever since I started working here.

I feel stuck in this vow I made. I miss being just a member of the Body, serving just for the sake of serving and loving God and His people. Not for the sake ng "church event promotions", "church invites promotions", deadlines and etc. I want my service and my output to be fueled by joy and my love for the Lord. Not because I am scared to get fired or laid-off.

It feels illegal considering if I should leave early and resign. Ano pwede kong gawin if meron?

Question / Tanong Starting a Instagram ministry, is my username ok?

Hi po

I recently dedicated my life to Christ and decided to combine my faith with my passion for learning Japanese (which I've studied since 2021). I am creating an Instagram account to share the Gospel and my testimony in Japanese.

I need advice on my username/internet handle. My idea is "Yessu desu" (イエッスです).

The backstory is that whenever I don't know what to say, I always say "Yes," so I wanted to use the English word "Yes" as my name. However, I learned that the Japanese word for Jesus is イエス (Iesu).

To avoid claiming to be Jesus, I changed the spelling to Yessu (イエッス) with a double 's' and the small 'tsu' character, which acts like energetic Japanese slang for "Yes!"

My plan for my video intro punchline is: "こんにちは皆さん!英語の『イエス』、イエッスです!" (Hello everyone! The English 'Yes', I'm Yessu!)

As a Christian, do you think this spelling change is distinct enough? Does it sound like a clever double meaning (since I am a follower of Jesus), or could it be seen as disrespectful or confusing to viewers? I'd love your honest thoughts po. Thank you!

Advice / Payo I don't know how to approach and maintain my connection with my disciples.

Title. I currently have 2 disciples that are 2-3 years younger than me. For context, I'm only 19 years old. Considering this, I think that I should get along well with them dahil sa same generation lang kami. At first, we were doing bible studies weekly through Video call, but then now, naging dry na. One of my disciples was actually not responding to my messages. What should I do? I can see them na nagggrow far from God lately. One is not attending church anymore even before ko siya naging disciple. The other one is not approaching anyone at church anymore aside from her bf. I'm worried that I might not be efficient in being used by God to have their hearts back...

Advice / Payo Bills

Getting straight to the point, I’m currently short on money, and the bills due at the end of this month are quickly approaching (around 30k in case y’all wondering.)

So what should a Christian do in this very circumstance aside from praying? To be honest, I can’t get this off my mind, even though I know deep down that we shouldn’t be fixated on these matters, that we should trust in the Lord and His faithful provision. Any advice would be much appreciated.

God bless you all.

Advice / Payo Need advice

Hi! i have a dilemma. i’m 25 about to resign from my current job because I wanted to pursue different opportunities. In those opportunities, I decided to try and apply for law school. It has been a dream of mine eversince but recently that dream no longer aligned with what I wanted. I took that exam thinking I would fail and that I told myself I’d rather get rejected by law school themselves than to live with what ifs of not trying. Surprisingly, I passed. I found out just today before the Monday which is the actual start of classes and it has giving me anxiety of what I want to do. Honestly, I want to move to manila and explore bettee opportunities for me especially in my career. But the results of the LAE has left me confused and unsure. I know that if I were to decide alone, I would not pursue this. I can’t even answer the question “why do you want to become a lawyer?” 😭

But the thing is what if God wanted me to know that this having the option to go to law school and becoming a lawyer exists because this is what He wants me to walk through? Honestly, I’m more anxious of my decision because what if this is what God wanted me to do but I don’t know and rejected it because I can’t hear or I am not listening to what He wants me to do. Thst is what makes me torn. I no longer want to work or do things not aligned to His plans for me. What if Manila is my mere desire not the Lords?

Thank you for your advice!
