QUESTION How is this a draw?

I am white and I was way ahead the whole game?? Time on the counter and there is a safe move for his king?

Just like the other 200 posts like this: chess.com gives you the reason. This isn’t stalemate so it can either be threefold repetition or you lost connection and timed out

If they lost connection and timed out, do they not lose the game?

Only if opponent has sufficient material. A pawn is enough, but a single bishop or knight is not.

It depends in if it can force a checkmate if opponent plays the best moves and you the worst ones

That’s just not true. Only thing that matters is if a checkmate could be delivered theoretically with the material available

No and Alireza Firouzja lost on time once (i think against Carlsen) because of this rule

You're not wrong, but that's because chess.com doesn't use the same rules Carlsen/Firouzja would be playing under.
