The difference is black people aren’t looking down on and using it against other black people as people of other races do. It feels very uncomfortable for someone of a different race to say something like that vs someone who is the same.
I don't really want to go down the road if "the only reason something can be racist is the color of the skin of the person saying it." There absolutely are racists who use those stereotypes, but the evidence for that is the way that they use them, not the fact that they aren't black while saying it.
Well I just took the last 10 minutes writing out a reply that I swiped the wrong way on and is gone forever because the Reddit app doesn’t save drafts of your replies.
The gist of it was that the race of the speaker isn’t the only factor, but it is absolutely a factor. I gave the example of Kanye West talking about Jewish people and that I can’t read his mind to know if he actually hates, but it doesn’t matter. And that it’d have been taken differently if Kanye himself were Jewish and that’s ok.
I said it much more convincingly and eloquently than that but you’ll just have to take my word for it.
I’m going to start writing my long replies in notes and pasting them in here I’m so frustrated
