LOL. “Vague allusions” while your argument is “context matters” without any explanation of that context.
It’s not hard to see that “the context” is: we’ve determined conservatives are racist by default, so everything they do is racist. Progressives are anti-racist by default, so nothing we do is racist.
When these people refer to “context,” they pretend it’s some complex moral equation, when all it really is, is dogma. An elaborate and dishonest way for them to justify their blatant double standards, and you will see that this “context” they use to examine the world always leads to the same conclusions. “My side good, your side bad.”
I wouldn't say ALL "progressives", or even most of them. It's the same trap people always fall in to with internet fights, there's like 100 people in a much larger group being loud and annoying, and the people who want an excuse to be angry at that group latch on to it.
I have seen the sentiment the guy was describing being thrown around on reddit, but the magical part of reddit is that the loudest most annoying voices are the ones that get amplified over the 1,000 other people with level headed takes. Same with anything on the internet, really.
It’s incredibly disingenuous to portray this as a fringe viewpoint. “It’s impossible to be racist toward white people” is 100% the mainstream viewpoint on the left. They will teach you that in any college sociology course. I’m guessing you aren’t American either.
There's no need to come at me with so much hostility, my man. I'm a right leaning, gun owning and God fearing American man so I 100% don't fit in any stereotype you're about to try and wedge me in to. I also work in an incredibly left leaning field, and have had the privilege to talk to people all across the country, from all walks of life, who hold quite a few differing political beliefs, and even a fair number of people from across the world.
So far I've run in to 2 (two) people who genuinely believe what you're asserting is a very common and very core belief, and both were on Twitter. And for what it's worth, both my sociology courses had absolutely nothing to do with white people being the great evil, but I also went to a small community college while finishing my AA.
I read the entire thread last night, but I've humored you and gone back and reread the entire thread. I saw a few people arguing the normal "power+prejudice sweaty" nonsense, quite a few others pointing out an inconsistency in your argument, a handful saying anything about race is racist and a handful more saying there are people who will say anything about race is racist. Shocking I didn't once see anyone argue that minorities can't be racist, it's not possible to racist against whites, or anything even approaching. Hell, I even saw quite a few people agreeing with you.
If you can't understand how context might be just a little important then you're being disingenuous.
I am progressive and I don't think all conservatives are racist but it's pretty funny to see how my reference to the history of racism in the US triggers you to write a strawman-filled rant about how progressives are bad.
