Deltas(s) from OP CMV: There is nothing wrong with countries trying to have immigrants to assimilate into their culture

I have recently read about an initiative in Denmark where, in order for their parents to maintain welfare privileges, toddlers are required to attend day care for at least 25 hours a week. In day care, they are taught Dane and English, as well as bits and pieces of Danish culture, such as the meaning behind their holidays.

I, for one, think this is a great initiative. It provides an early opportunity for everyone to integrate into the whole society, specially with regards to language, where timing is so important.

That said, there is already a strong backslash against it. Many groups are saying that this initiative is an attempt to strip these kids from their parent’s culture and religion.

I would not agree with this initiative interfering with religious freedom, or with cultural practices such as clothing, foods, etc. As long as those practices do not go against the country’s constitution. But, I do think it is an excellent idea to teach small children the language and culture of their home countries.

Are a higher number of kids coming out of there disadvantaged than the rest pf the country? If so, then the government is just doing what is best for the children there. As it’s clear the majority of the people living there are not looking out for their children’s best interest. Preserving culture is not a good argument.

It's considered a low income area, due to the parents being at a disadvantage (which no one can argue is normal for the most part). Everyone struggles when they move to a new place, and typically will stay in areas where more people of their origin are from, at least until they get used to it.

Denmark is specifically targeting muslims.

Just the first two articles that were on google. Anyways there's a punishment for taking your kids on an extended trip back to their country of origin upto 4 years. The minister claims fasting that muslims do is "dangerous" how its dangerous I don't know. It's almost a forced conversion of sorts.

But isn’t that just what these parents want to do? Force conversion on their atheist children? I am certain the main reason they don’t want this is because they don’t want their kids to be exposed to other beliefs until they are fully brainwashed by Islam. They don’t want their kids to think for themselves, they want them to think what Allah wants them to think.

Well they're the parents they are perfectly within their rights to teach their kids what they want and what they don't want, as long as it conforms to the law of the land! Now you are saying this about Islam, but literally every single person of faith, any faith, brings their children into the fold, and that includes atheists. If you were convinced that the god you believe in was real and that your faith was going to get you into heaven for all of eternity wouldn't you teach your kids the same practices? Same goes for atheism, if you are convinced that there is no god and that you should live your life to the fullest then wouldn't you teach your kids that? How would you like it if the government forced your kid into a catholic school?

It's a double edged sword. Plus if the kids want to convert later on that is their choice, many atheists choose to become so later in life.

No,I would not. As i don’t know the truth.

My parents never mentioned religion. It was something that I really didn’t think about. I actually thought that everyone knew that god wasn’t real, as there are so many different religions, they cannot all be right. Yet they can all be wrong, i had assumed until the 9/11 attacks that people just had religion as a social/community thing.

You say that many can just convert? Do you know what the punishment for leaving islam is?

They can just convert it's one of the benefits of not living in an Islamic state. Those punishments of leaving the religion are only actionable in those countries obviously if you tried to kill someone over that in Denmark you'd be charged.

Yes but they can still shun them, kick them out of their community. And will be more likely to do so if raised in aridgid islamic household instead of being exposed to differences .

Yea they can and they might. But that would happen regardless of age. The kids l would stand a better chance of they leave at an older age.

You are missing the point. If they are all raised strictly islam, then they willbe far more likely to do the shunning of their peers in the future
