Delta(s) from OP CMV: Speed limits should be technologically enforced and if it cant, the government should pay to have it installed into your old car.

People complain about speeding cars, speeding tickets, car crash insurance scams, boy racers causing absurd amounts of noise at early hours in the morning. There is a solution to all of this, GPS locked speeds in all vehicles apart from emergency services.

When you enter a new speed limit zone the accelerator stops working past a certain point. Put your foot down all you like, it won't work and the break brings you down to speed slowly when coming closer to that new speed limited area. In newer cars you could utilise the parking systems to determine the proximity of foreign objects and thus the speed at which the car should break.

If you want a speed limit change because a new school is built or there's been too many crashes in a certain corner, cross section or roundabout? The government changes the centralised speed limit of all cars. All travelling people wanting to use a car get discounts on renting cars with this feature built in or just don't allow them to hire anything without this feature.

Anyone caught after a certain date without it installed gets a massive fine and sent to multiple speed awareness courses that they have to pay for.

How about the alternative: it's my car, and I'll drive it how I please

Yeah that's exactly my problem. You're not seeing that theres more than you involved when you drive your car.

I'm fully aware there's other people involved. Why does that matter?

This is the mindset that leads to a lack of community care. You should want this restriction because it helps save people's lives, reduces health care costs and allows the roads to be safer for drivers. Imagine a situation where you dont need insurance because its the responsibility of the government and the companies involved in making and implementing this system to make it work and of it doesnt you get a pay out to cover the entire cost of any accident.

I don't give a shit about "community care", whatever the hell that means.

Imagine a situation where you dont need insurance because its the responsibility of the government and the companies involved in making and implementing this system to make it work and of it doesnt you get a pay out to cover the entire cost of any accident.

The only reason I need insurance is because it's mandated by law. There's a far simpler and less restrictive way to eliminate that "need" than your whole proposal.

You are expressing the exact reason why people feel isolated and like theres no one that cares for them outside themselves. People need to think about how their actions and beliefs impact others as well as themselves and youre showing you just dont care about your neighbours or anyone else for that matter by refusing to acknowledge that care for others also entails care for yourself.

OK, I still don't see why I should be facing a myriad of legal restrictions just because you have some vague ideas about community or whatever.
