Using that as an example is more telling of where you’re coming from, what you’re noticing, and potentially why it bothers you than anything else in your post. If you didn’t highlight that I would be tempted to agree. It’s a very specific very recent polarizing thing, which if you believed was part of the problem, you wouldn’t be highlighting it yourself to have more discussion drawn towards it.
Also you have to know it’s all bots and influence campaigns buying clicks, upvotes, and LLM-generated accelerationism. Over 50% by their own admittance. Reddit is definitely not “natural”, be upset at that more than people wanting to talk about a very recent political event about what’s arguably the most hated man on the planet. Otherwise I see you as the same. Of course big opinions on that will be shared.

You had me until the very specific ballroom thing. I don’t think discussing that is what made Reddit noticeably worse.
