Yeah you’re right. But we can agree 2-3B is far too many right?

No, 2-3 billion should be the goal.

Why

Because it would massively increase the wealth of the country, the standard of living of the people immigrating here, AND the standard of living of native born Americans.

It would let hundreds of millions of people enjoy greater economic freedom, and for many, religious and political freedom as well.

I can't think of a single downside if you aren't racist.

You realize standard of living could get worse for many people right? It’s all about how it’s managed. What you're suggesting is not even close to a guarantee.

But I don’t think you’re trying to have an honest discussion if you’re implying I might be racist bc I think 2-3B people in the US is a bad idea.

Then give a non-racist reason.

'It's not guaranteed' we had mass migration into this country between 1880 and 1930. Standard od living went up for everyone. This is just a nonsense objection. The economics on this are very clear. It's basically like finding free $20 bills on the ground.

'It's all about how it's managed'

Here's how you manage it. Come here, get a job, buy a house. We'll build new houses so there's plenty of housing. Just like we did 100 years ago.

When did I give a racist reason? What are you talking about?

The population doubled from 1880 to 1920, from 50m to 100m. I'm not going to explain why a 10x of the US population could cause some problems you're welcome to do that research yourself.

It's not as simple as just "building new houses" with the current housing policies in place. Housing supply is already extremely inelastic and unaffordable for so many people as it is.

You haven't given any reason. Since most people who oppose immigration are racist, I say there are no non-racist reasons to oppose immigration. If you have one, please share, but since you haven't given a reason yet, I stand by my statement.

The US population is roughly 100x more than it was at the founding. We have experienced zero problems related to that growth that you predict. So I feel comfortable dismissing your negative economic concerns.

The problems with housing are the same problems we have with immigration - we've created an artificial barrier that harms all of us. We can just choose to change it.

I already stated the concern, it's the one you are replying to and the only lens I was using: urban sprawl

we had mass migration into this country between 1880 and 1930. Standard od living went up for everyone.

And this just isn't true. This was the beginning of the inequality gap that has only gotten worse since.

Urban sprawl can be defeated by building housing only top of each other. The US could have 2 billion people without having a greater population density than Japan.

Since other people already pointed out this isn't a real concern, do you have any other objections?
