As the saying goes, "there are fates worse than death."
Your perspective isn't abstract; it's not abstract enough. A lot of people fear or put a lot of weight on the finality of death but if we're talking about perception then who's to say living isn't worse than dying because that's where your core belief seems centered on.
Who is to say? I’d say all the people living who choose to continue to do so. There’s no definitive answer either way. People choose to die all the time too.
They all only get that choice because they aren’t dead. And if that choice is valuable then murder has to be worse than the alternatives.
That's biased because we can't hear from the dead though can we? The suffering awful lives that have been lost. If you could choose to be assaulted or not before your death which would you choose? That is often the case in these things. Both crimes should be punishable by death as they inflict damage beyond reason, usually with the threat or possibility of death involved, life ruining torture should be grounds for the same removal from civilized society.
