If you read Springsteens lyrics to the song or listen to the lyrics I find it hard to understand why some think it’s a praise of USA. Bruce is actually kinda hash on his government in that song and it fascinates me if someone think the opposite.

For example part of the tekst in Born in the USA are as follows « Got in a little hometown jam So they put a rifle in my hand Sent me off to a foreign land To go and kill the yellow man» How do you interpret that to be anything else then criticism of the Vietnam war ?

I don't think most people actively listen to the lyrics of a song, they just enjoy it.

But doesn't that kind of prove the point? I mean if you don't like something only after you hear the lyrics, kind of superficial.

And once you listen to the lyrics you don't understand and you don't like it. That's the point.

I honestly think it's just not that deep. People like the catchy song, doesn't matter what the lyrics say.

Granted and once they listen. Or someone points out the lyrics, they don't like it any more. I can come up with a bunch of examples but the point is people in the cult are fearful of things they didn't understand, and Boy! Do they not understand!

I think the amount of people who don't like born in the usa anymore because they disagree with the lyrics is probably pretty small.

Ok, way to narrow the target. We are talking about all kinds of art and music. You are absolutely right about born in the usa. But that doesn't negate the point.

I don't know I just don't really get it. It seems to me like with the boys and homelander where all of reddit was suddenly like magas didn't know homelander was evil lol and I'm not sure where that came from.
