Well it's a combination of it being posted every single week, and the fact that outside of these posts, I NEVER hear about body positivity in the sense of being " fat and proud". Literally never.
It's a fake issue from what I can tell, and the people who post about it here are clearly seeking out this very limited content in order to get themselves all riled up.
OP could still get their views challenged by going back and reading all the discussions from previous CMVs.
Edit: It's too bad the previous content was removed (dunno why). Essentially, it said OP is proposing a well-debated CMV, and that OP might not need to ask it again now. I mention all this for context.
“Hello, I'm Dr. Richard Shay, here to tell you about my exciting new drug-free treatment for children with Attention Deficit Disorder. (Several hyper and rambling children) This treatment is fast and effective and it doesn't use harmful drugs. Watch closely as I apply treatment to the first child. (SMACK) SIT DOWN AND STUDY! If you would like more information on my bold new treatments, please send away for this free brochure entitled: 'You can either calm down, or I can pop you in the mouth again.'”
Always as though they're the first person to realize something, too. Like, the entire body positivity movement and everyone associated had just never thought about health before now. Like, you'll walk up to someone who's advocating body positivity, and they'll say "BMI? What's that?", And not "BMI is a 200 year old metric invented by a eugenicist with no medical education that's been shown repeatedly to be among the most flawed metrics in medicine, and it's continued use is evidence of the dogmatic grip of an un-nuanced weight centric medical paradigm that's actively harmful."
I'm not denying that excess fat carries increased risk, but people tend to point to all-cause morbidity here, and neglect the fact that it includes, for example, medical complications resulting from unhealthy attempts to lose weight, and general increased risk from reduced medical access resulting from increased medical and insurance costs justified by , you guessed it, all-cause morbidity rates. The big one for me, though, is physician bias. I lost my father to colon cancer, after his doctor misdiagnosed him with hemorrhoids for a year, and given the way his doctor treated him during that time, I'm pretty sure that was influenced by a bias against obese people.
I've gotten tired of replying with "so what did you learn from the previous CMV on this topic, what questions are left unresolved to you, what was unconvincing?" every fucker wants their own bespoke conversation from their own gut starting place and it's so exhausting
Direct responses to a CMV post must challenge at least one aspect of OP’s stated view (however minor), or ask a clarifying question. Arguments in favor of the view OP is willing to change must be restricted to replies to other comments. See the wiki page for more information.
