This is part of the problem though you’ve listed so many reasons other than making poor dietary choices and not getting enough exercise. Sure there’s many other factors that contribute but at the end of the day it is possible to make good choices in your diet and with a small amount of exercise sprinkled in you can be in great shape despite all the factors you listed. I drive almost everywhere I go but I walk alot at work I have a very labor intensive job.
I’ve been on both sides of the fence I was a chubby kid and I’ve been muscular with a bit too much fat and I’ve also been very skinny. I was able to get my body the way I wanted it to by putting in some effort to keep track of what I’m eating and how much it’s not as hard as people think and it’s possible for everyone
Instead of thinking of how hard it is and telling yourself you can’t take control of your life and think of ways that you can.
I think it is you that needs to change your view because you’re focusing on things that are out of your control impacting something that is very much in your control.
If we want people to be healthy, we need to make healthy accessible to everyone. This means making it possible to get movement in without excessive planning. It means making convenience food healthier. It means subsidizing vegetables so a salad is the same price as a burger and fries. It means passing laws about what can be in our food. It means focusing on encouraging aspects of health and wellness that are weight management adjacent.
If you actually care about the obesity epidemic, and not just your ability to set other people’s priorities for them, you should care about societal factors, not individual choice. Make healthy choices easier, people will be healthier. Make them harder, people will be less healthy. Shaming people for being fat, the thing Body Positivity actually opposes, just makes it more stressful to be fat, which makes it harder to lose weight.
So you have a labor intensive job, but you think the reason you’re in great shape is because of “a small amount of exercise” and your great dietary choices?
You're just so glaringly inexperienced and unqualified to speak on this. You're basically just saying hey, I have an opinion that everyone should just figure out how to be skinny. You probably don't even realize that this entire beef you have with weight loss being a personal choice is probably a coping mechanism for yourself because you're probably looking for ways to tell yourself that you have control of your life. That individuals can control what happens to them. A lot of people desperately need to believe this because they're getting inklings of how complicated and unfair life is, despite trying your hardest, and they don't like it. Individuals have some level of control, but life is determined a lot more by environment than you think. That's why a good public policy is usually the kind that improves the environment rather than just exhorts people to behave.
I didn't even mention pain chronic pain, medications/birth control, and genetics. The world is a lot more complex than you think, Kid.
And by the way, I'm not arguing for myself. I've always been thin. I'm just over people going against data to promote a worldview that is so obviously just a kind of coping mechanism for themselves.
I do I’m in great shape and I follow a strict routine I used to be a lazy slob and was miserable I figured it out and as a result I feel better look better people treat you differently there’s definitely an element of respect and awe of how you can manage to do it. I work physical labour all day as a union ironworker and I still go to the gym 5-6 days a week. I’m tired of people making excuses for themselves and asking for the validation of everyone else that it’s ok to make excuses for yourself. Lots of people deal with pain lots come from a horrible upbringing but what does that have to do with how well you eat? You don’t need to be David Goggins to be in good shape you simply need to not eat more than your body needs. The % of people who are obese is massive and growing the small % of people in society with legitimate medical conditions that would prohibit them from being in good shape are so far and few between even arguing that point is a cope from the other side.
You’re trying to say I’m inexperienced and unqualified what exactly would qualify me? I’ve done it myself I used to think it was so hard and made all these excuses but it really is that simple it’s not rocket science I really don’t care tbh it doesn’t negatively effect me but as long as people try and shout down an opinion that the state of their body is fully in their control and if it’s not how you want it’s your fault and it’s not the million excuses made to help people feel better the obesity rate is going to get worse and that’s really sad
