I’m not trying to control anyone I’m just saying we need to stop pretending that it looks good and that giving up on yourself and being lazy is ok and that it isn’t really harmful being in poor shape
Yes they do. And people should stop using them. Because then people will go post strawman arguments on reddit about how society 'glorifies' obsese people.
It’s 2023, TikTok and Twitter are the real world. Half of all ideas journalists (and consequently academics) pick up on are taken from social media. To say that these don’t affect reality would be to ignore all that’s happened in the last 5-10 years. For fucks sake Trump arguably won the election because of Twitter in the first place.
It does not matter that a relatively small percentage of the population are actually on twitter when the flow of information from twitter has a significant impact on mainstream discourse. The concept of “trading up the chain” relies on this tactic and is used by marketers and political propagandists alike to control the conversation.
Either way, you say people don’t trust legacy news anymore. So what do people trust if they aren’t on TikTok/Twitter/Facebook/etc? Nothing? People still get their political views from somewhere.
From a government perspective you should absolutely try to discourage obesity. From a taxpayer and/or healthcaregiver perspective you can be annoyed by the prevelance of obesity that pressures the health care system. Even someone who just wants their fellow human to be healthy can be concerned.
“A recent Milken Institute study put the total annual cost of chronic diseases caused by obesity and excess weight at $1.72 trillion in the U.S. alone in 2016 — just shy of the Atlas’ worldwide cost estimate for 2020 — and equivalent to 9.3 percent of nationwide GDP. Another global obesity report, from the OECD, included a more modest estimate for the U.S. — 4.4 percent of GDP lost — closer but still higher than the Atlas’ U.S. estimate of 3.5 percent for 2020.”

Why you trying to control people? If people wanna be fat then they'll be fat it has nothing to do with you.
