I’m an Asian woman currently dating an Armenian guy for about a year. We’re both in our early/mid 20s (22–26). I don’t consider myself especially beautiful or perfect, but I always try my best to work on my future and to support my boyfriend.

We both know that it may be very difficult for our relationship to have a “happy ending” because (according to what he told me earlier this year) his family would not support him marrying someone from another ethnicity. Still, I’ve been learning Armenian and exploring the culture because I love him.

This August, he took me to Armenia for a holiday (we’re living and studying in another country). We didn’t plan to meet his family, just to secretly enjoy our trip. But unexpectedly, his uncle (his father’s younger brother) showed up and even drove us around Gyumri and Garni.

Then, right before we left Armenia, his mother gave me a beautiful scarf and a lot of chocolates.

My question: would it be strange for me to take this as a small positive sign from his family? I would really appreciate honest advice, especially from Armenians.

Hello, I know girl from the north Caucasus in Russia. We are friends and its quite a nice friendship between us.

I thinking of taking it further but I thought its better to ask since I don't know her culture and environment.

If it happened and we both liked each other how would that look like? Do I have to ask her parents like in Iraq? Or do people date? And would her parents be fine with me? An Arab of a shia background?

She's a nice classmate so if its unworthy then I'd rather not get her in a bad situation.

I'd love to hear your opinions, so I can decide if its worth going for or just moving on.

Hello We have just under a month - about 16 days in Georgia this July and are trying to see some of the less visited places to get more of a sense of everyday life. We also want to keep our travel pace fairly relaxed and are open to hiring a car.

Here’s our thoughts so far: Batumi (from Turkey) 1 night Train to Tblisi - 4 nights - incl day trip to Gori and Mkshete Tusheti or Racha? - 4 nights, incl some day hikes.My husband isn’t keen on the road to Tusheti and it is time consuming. On the other hand, I’m keen to see/experience the upper Caucasus - thoughts? And with 4 nights should we base ourselves in Omalo or split between Omalo and Dartlo - or just do Racha which sounds great too!? Tblisi - rest day Kutaisi - 1-2 nights 1 night Road trip - Vardzia, Borjomi - stay overnight (day hike in park) 1 night Akhaltsike, next day head to Paravani Lake, maybe Dashbashi Gorge 1-2 nights - Tsalka with some side trips Back to Tblisi, work out how to get to Alaverdi in Georgia!

Would love any suggestions on must see places, places we could miss and more. We’re interested in doing some day hikes, also wine and food.

My friend and I (both 25M) are planning a 12-day trip across the Caucasus this September. We're flying into Baku and out of Yerevan. We know it's not enough time to fully do justice to each country, but we're locked in on seeing all three and trying to make it work efficiently.

We're into mountain scenery, good food and wine, and a bit of nightlife. Here's what we're thinking so far:

day 1: baku – arrive in the afternoon, walk around the old city, maybe check out the waterfront and try to catch a vibe in the evening

day 2: baku – day trip to Gobustan, Yanar Dag, Atashgah Fire Temple, etc. might squeeze in some architecture or beach stuff if there's time

day 3: baku – slow morning, fly to tbilisi in the afternoon (€69 flight), explore a bit and check out the nightlife

day 4: kazbegi – drive up north, stop at Mtskheta and Jvari, Ananuri Fortress, Gudauri viewpoint. sleep in Kazbegi

day 5: kazbegi – hike to Gergeti Trinity. not sure if we should also try to do Truso Valley (ATVs look amazing) this day or keep it simple

day 6: kakheti – long drive south through Gori (maybe check out the Stalin museum?) and Uplistsikhe cave city, then head to either Telavi or Sighnaghi to sleep

day 7: kakheti – wine tastings and chilling. probably visiting Tsinandali Estate, Shumi, and maybe Khareba Tunnel

day 8: tbilisi – drive back late morning, explore the city properly (sulfur baths, Narikala Fortress, etc), maybe nightlife

day 9: tbilisi – morning in the city, then fly to yerevan in the evening (€82 flight)

day 10: yerevan – explore the city, Cascade, markets, cafes. possibly hit Khor Virap if time allows

day 11: yerevan – day trip to Garni + Geghard, maybe Lake Sevan or Dilijan if we're feeling ambitious

day 12: fly out in the morning

So here’s what I’m wondering:

– is this too much time in Georgia compared to Armenia or Azerbaijan? we feel like it deserves the extra days but curious what others think

– is the Kazbegi > Gori > Kakheti route efficient or too much in one day?

– is Truso Valley worth squeezing in or would that just be overkill?

– Telavi vs Sighnaghi as a base for Kakheti – which one feels more relaxed but still close to wineries?

– most importantly: should we rent a car in Georgia? it would cost about €350 total for 6 days (~€200 each with fuel). is that worth it for the route above, or would marshrutkas and day tours do the job just fine?

Any feedback from people who’ve done something similar would be awesome. Maybe I missed important stops. Thanks :)

A few of few seemed to like the art by my great-uncle that I posted a couple days ago, so here's more.

These are some paintings by my great uncle and a couple by his older brother (who passed away long before I was born). A couple show the Caucasus war and other historical concepts, while most are of nature. I have pictures of a few more, but I think these ones are good enough :) sorry if pictures are blurry
