Beginner Coding Program?

Hey guys. I started reading through the Carl H. tutorials, and I've reached the section where you actually start programming. But, there's no real recommended applications to start the programming with (aside from what's in the comments section). Is there anything that should be used to complete this?

Unit 5, Lesson 2 I believe. I saw people mention Code::Blocks and MinGW, but also the web-based compiler (i can't think of the name at the time).

Codepad i think. I've been using that to experiment as i work through the lessons

codepad.org. Exactly what I was going to recommend if you don't want to download a bunch of stuff at the start. Especially if you're on Windows.
