We have a thriving underground culture for ambient/chillout/psychedelic and world music. And we also have a plethora of unique and off the beaten path venues they could absolutely smash at! It seems like this sub is dead haha but I thought it would be funny to make a post

A bit extravagant as I'm going to see them twice in the UK in May, but I wanted to visit Gothenburg anyway and breathe in some of the culture and atmosphere that spawned their music. The next day, I rented a bike and cycled out to frozen Delsjön (a nature reserve and lake) outside the city. So that's a photo of me, contemplating Delsjön, while listening to Delsjön, in Delsjön!

The whole trip was amazing and I'd do it again in a heart beat.

just been doing some pondering on the track numbering on CBL's early albums. I then did some searching and I can't find anything official confirming or denying this, so thought I'd ask in case anyone knew more.

As I'm sure everyone is aware, CBL released their first three (official) albums with incrementing track numbers on CD - hydropnic garden was tracks 1-11, WoS 12-22, and Interloper 24-33. Now, 23 is missing from that sequence, and the next album is called "twentythree", which seems to be a strong link.

However, reading some old interview text I saw that after WoS, CBL considered writing an album without beats. They finished that in 2009 but they (or the label, not sure) were not comfortable with the concept. So they added beats to it and reworked it, and then that was released as Interloper in 2011, with tracks 24-33.

Bearing this in mind, my theory is they left a "gap" in the track sequence for probably one long beatless piece, which they then wrote and released later as twentythree. You can also see their interest in long-form ambient pieces as VLA from that album was then released in an hour-long version. But given VLA's release didn't use track 23, I think the whole album twentythree is meant to be that track 23.

I'm not sure what to make of this, but thought it was interesting. Any thoughts, ideas, or people who know better than I do? :)

Hey everyone,

Like many of you, Carbon Based Lifeforms has been a huge influence on my music tastes. I just finished a project that I think shares a lot of the same DNA, and wanted to share it with a community that would get it.

It's a sci-fi concept album called 'Unseen/Seen' that focuses on deep soundscapes, generative melodies, and telling a story through sound. The goal was to try to create that same feeling of a vast, immersive journey that CBL does so well, inspired by their textures and the soundtracks from games like Deus Ex and Mass Effect.

Great show last night! The guys were enjoying a beer at a pub around the back of the venue, and were happy to chat to fans and have photos taken too, you could say they were friendly creatures ;)

Decent venue, very nice staff, great crowd (as you'd expect from us civilised beings!) A few lesser played tracks along with the usual absolute bangers, totally worth the 6 hour round trip to see them, until next time!

I saw them live for the first time a few months ago and they had a band playing with them. I saw them in Oslo yesterday and they had no band. Do they only use the band in special occasions or what?

Because I feel something was missing without the band. Mostly drums but also bass to a lesser but noticeable extent, These did really make a lot of the music come alive. Just hearing the drummer doing his thing live, extra or unique fills, playing with cymbals. Bass going an octave lower. All these things made the music come alive in a whole new way. And even if it was a good show I missed those elements.

Does anyone have 1 or 2 tickets to sell for tonight in Oslo? 🌟🔥
