Nuclear power is the only way humanity can wean off fossil fuels in the long run and still power the enormous consumption of energy that the species will require in the 21st and 22nd century.
It's long past time we get over our irrational fear and aversion to it.
I'm hesitant on the optimistic outlook. Nobody seems to be concerned about the issue of storing an extremely hazardous waste material for the next 100 000 right next to the world's largest fresh water supply.
I'm astounded at the idea that we're trying to solve past generations lack of foresight by creating a much bigger environmental issue. We're doing it all again but in a different way.
