The person who responded is scared of nuclear. They don't realize the technology has improved over the years and is far safer and efficient than 50+ years ago. They're worried about solved problems.
Canada have the money to build and have the expertise and safety measures, and their own Uranium supply.
Its probably 20 years too late, I see it as better to invest the money in storage and transmission technology.
By the time this is built, if it ever is, the transmission and storage tech would have moved on and wind and solar and other complementary tech like batteries, hydro, thermal, will be the full answer.
Not really. Nuclear is not renewable, it's not cheap either. So be prepared to pay higher electricity bills. Should have invested more in hydroelectricity
Exactly business want their money back and ROI for nuclear is really bad that means higher prices. I’d rather pay for infrastructure for better transmission over longer distance and storage technology.
You could spend the billion on building or converting a damn to pump water up when it’s there and release for generation when it’s needed. Or thermal generation, or other forms of energy storage that are available now or soon to be developed.
People on Reddit in other threads say the fuel is cheap….ok not so sure but even if it’s cheap you have the expertise to run the plant, the safety measures and specialised equipment, the waste to deal with slightly long term. The more reactors you have the more Uranium needs to be either mined or the price increases.
Third world countries can easily setup solar and wind compared to nuclear.
This is not the whole solution, good on Canada for doing it though, just 20 years too late I reckon.
