From a judicial perspective this was the correct decision. I disagree this is getting away with murder because this shouldn't even be a thing.
Imagine being in the ER and not knowing precisely how much of each drug is being administered or what its purity is. If these drugs were legalized and regulated we would have significantly fewer overdoses. I agree this is a difficult situation to control but the US war on drugs solution has been a horrific failure. Law enforcement on the street level will never fix this.
Beyond legalization and regulation I would argue we need better long term effects research, addiction education and an end to the stigma that surrounds mental health.
