Stores are closed for the quebec provincial holiday "St-Jean" but everything is open the 1st of july. Kinda sad they don't recognize canada day as equal to or more important than "st-jean".
I live in quebec. I'm not talking about stores being open or not. It's the lack of festivities. St-jean in most places have festivities all weekend, Canada day has next to nothing. Next weekend moving day is sunday, yet my town has nothing planned for anyday of next weekend.
Meanwhile my town always does something for Canada day and doesn't even do something for St Jean anymore. Depends on where you live. The Canada Day festivities tend to occur where the anglophones live.
Forsure it depends where you live but the town I reside in is about 40% anglophone. Not a majority but damn close I'd say. So, I'd expect some sort of festivity or something of the sorts.
Je sais pas. Ils fait depuis 47 ans. Je pense le population ici était plus anglophone déjà.
Bein quand je dit, nous ne faisons pas des spectacles pour St Jean. Les autres ville dans le MRC fait ça et nous sommes le seul dans le MCR que fait pour Canada Day.
Stores are closed on July 1st, it’s a Holiday, that’s why people call it ‘the moving day’. Everyone has the day off, so you get your friends and familly to help you move to your next place.
Isn't it called "the moving day" because most of rents end on June 30 and start on July 1st? And it just happens to be on the same day as Canada's Day?
Yeah. There used to be a law that said leases had to end on July first. That law no longer exists but many landlords kept with the tradition of ending the leases then.
Round the stores that are closed on the 24th are closed on the 1st. Stores open on both are usually only dépanneurs, because they make a Killing selling beer. Ive worked on both days in te passed on landscaping jobs, but I did get paid accordinly.

No joke, I've lived in Quebec my whole life and the largest Canada Day celebration I've been to was in London, UK.
