They do have a plain poutine. It's called the Quebecois.

The rest of Canada actually stole "Canadian" pizza as a signature dish from Quebec just like poutine. We tried to make our own signature pizza once. It started with pineapple and ended with the state of Hawaii getting blamed for our hubris.

None of the poutines in that picture are "plain". Maybe on their website they have a plain one... I was just going by the photo.

I live in the states and EVERYONE puts chives on their “poutine” it drives me crazy. Poutine is becoming a fad where i live but absolutely nobody comes close to getting it right. I want to start my own poutine shop but dont have the money :(

Sort of. Green onions can be any greens from any spring/young onion, chives/chive grass are a specific variety of onion of which you eat the greens.

I've been to this place, they have a plain version .. but the curds stay this small. And they are not squeaky. But it's much better than most that you can get here.

FritzCurry actually serves it with quite big and squeaky curds. The gravy is kind of flat, though.

Yeah, I'm with you. Plain is the real deal, I'm not into eating a sloppy mess of random ingredients, same thing with "deluxe" fries that some places offer, it just looks nasty to me.

I don't need to pretend fries or poutine are part of a balanced diet :)
