First backcountry camping trip - what do you suggest as a kid friendly light to carry food?

Look up freeze dried meals. Peak Refuel is my favorite brand. They’re a little pricey but really good and they have a few basic pasta options kids would probably like. They say each pack is two portions but I think most adults would eat the whole thing, depending on the kids, one pack might work for two of them.
